I noticed there was not a thread created for Vanderbilt pre-specialty nursing for 2021, so I created one. Is anyone already preparing for this upcoming application cycle?

I visited Baltimore last month and can totally see myself there, but I'm from Kentucky so Tennessee is closer to home/familiar. When I visited Vanderbilt, I was blown away by the state of the art facility and equipment and the campus is beautiful! What about you?
In the past I’ve seen a few students get a full scholarship (Based on incoming GPA and other metrics). Usually 2-3 students are awarded the full scholarship according to financial aid packets they sent us via email. Most students will get $1,000-$10,000 scholarships (Directly from the SON) that are renewable for two years if you keep certain grades and rely on loans for the rest unfortunately. PMHNP at Vanderbilt costs about $75,000/year so it’s definitely an investment!

Unfortunately I did not complete and submit my application for John Hopkins. Has anyone applied and waiting for a acceptance from other schools?
I applied to Yale and Rush (Yale is direct entry into a specialty like Vandy, Rush is a generalist MSN). I received interviews at both; already had my interview at Yale and find out first week of February; Rush does interviews next month with decisions late February. So it's all waiting game for me still ?
The waiting gets harder by the day. I've got kids and an out-of-state move is a big logistical headache, so I just want to know where we'll be so I can focus on planning!

The waiting period is split between fighting the h*ll out of your self doubts and wanting to start planning for acceptance. Of course, putting acceptance into the universe for everyone ✨Congrats to everyone getting acceptance, interviews, etc
I applied for this program and no where else. I’m concerned that I retook classes in the past. I was battling a illness but was very transparent about my struggles and how I fought to overcome them during my undergraduate years.
While I did struggle my first two years, I only improved and did incredibly my last 4 semesters of undergrad. I am hopeful they see my improvement and consider giving me the opportunity to be a part of their program. I truly hope they look at my overall application and don’t dismiss me after seeing my low GPA (3.5).
My mother went to Vanderbilt for her MSN. She was top of her class and won “Most Outstanding Student”. I can only hope to carry on her legacy.
Hi everyone! Just wanted to jump in since I've been reading along. I applied for the midwifery specialty. I've been accepted to Emory and have an interview with UCSF next week, then just waiting on Vanderbilt! I'm from California and haven't been able to go visit Nashville, but I really enjoyed the virtual open house they did and feel like I would like living there. Was anyone able to visit the school of nursing there pre-Covid?
Can't wait to just know my options so I can figure out my life, waiting is hard! Best of luck to everyone wherever you end up ?

Oh great! So I guess you liked it enough to consider moving back? What were your impressions of the school? I saw someone else posted about it having state of the art equipment and being beautiful generally.
It's hard to know what exactly to ask about the city (and of course I've been googling like crazy as if I'm already moving there haha), but I guess I'm wondering about diversity and the general culture seeing as it's in the south. I speak Spanish and would love to use it at least in clinical settings, which I did hear from a current student is very possible. In terms of health care specifically I imagine it's not as liberal as where I'm from. I used to work at Planned Parenthood and am definitely pro-choice. I don't see that being in conflict with anyone within the nursing school (hopefully) but wonder in the community at large where people stand on those types of things.
And then just curious about the vibe and lifestyle for young people there. I of course know there's lots of live music which I love.. other things I'm into are outdoors/hiking, the occasional night out salsa dancing, maybe joining a soccer team. I know it's a big enough city that you can probably find all kinds of things to get involved in (if there's even time with school!), but definitely let me know if you have anything to share from having lived there. Thanks! And congrats on your acceptance to Hopkins!

Hello! I have similar hesitations about Nashville. I was raised on the west coast and I’m a POC. I know Nashville has a reputation for being funky and fun but I’m pretty sure it’s not as progressive as what I’m used to. That said it’s such an amazing program and it’s only 2 years living in Nashville, so even if I didn’t love the city I expect it’s definitely tolerable (If not great - lots of people love Nashville). I already have narrowed down where I’d live to two neighborhoods near Vandy, but I have school-aged kids so I have to consider that too when looking at neighborhoods.
I wish I could apply to UCSF but I cannot make it work geographically/logistically. Good luck to you!!
