Hey everyone! I couldn't find this thread anywhere so figured that I would start one for all of us who applied to Vanderbilt's Pre-Specialty Entry program (for non-RNs) this fall. I applied for the PMHNP specialty. What about you?! :)
Just made the group! Here's the link, I added those who requested me!
@vandygal2010 and anyone else getting the good news, we have a Facebook group going for all Fall 2014 admitted students, regardless of specialty or entry level (prespevialty/RN/direct-entry)- it's a closed group, so just come request to join it and one of us will welcome you in! I think it's better if we don't divide ourselves up by specialty and entry level for now so we can all get the most resources & information before we go. (Link is above- nkw05 was kind enough to launch the group for us.)
Hello everyone. I was accepted for pre-specialty in Psych. I went to the open house and it was fine, a lot of information I already knew. I would have liked an admitted students day but it more or less served that purpose. So I am a California/New York gal and have grown up in very liberal areas. As a San Francisco Bay Area native from NY Jewish parents I am hesitant to move to Tennessee, or the "bible belt. "I loved the faculty and the feeling of support from the program. I found Nashville to be a charming town and very much noticed the Southern hospitality. I know at an institution with such bright minds, people will be accepting of all cultures but I guess I'm looking for some reassurance that all types of culture do exist there even if in smaller numbers. Will I be the only neurotic Jew with tattoos from San Francisco? Lol.
S-Lizzy, I'm trying to send you another PM, but one went through and second one was rejected because it said your mailbox was full. :)
Mentalhealthadvocate, I attend Vandy and I can tell you that you don't need to worry about the whole "Bible belt" thing. Nashville is a pretty big city with lots of different types of people, and the university itself is big enough that there are people of every religion, sexual orientation, lifestyle, background, etc. You will not be the only neurotic Jew with tattoos. There probably won't be hoards of them running around campus, but you won't be alone. As is the case with a lot of cities, the presence of so many college students tends to increase the level of diversity. :)
