Vanderbilt Nurse Residency Winter 2018

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Hello!

I am graduating in December and I have the summer off so I've begun looking at potential places that I'd like to work.

I'm thinking I'd like to do a nurse residency because I want to work in a pediatric Critical Care setting (PICU or Peds ER) and I feel like having that whole year with someone helping me and that I can ask questions without feeling like an annoying dummy.

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone here was looking at Vanderbilt's Nurse Residency for February 2018? I'm not from Nashville, but I'm also not too far away as I'm from North Alabama. I'd appreciate any tips about the residency or about Nashville!

Thanks

Hey guys!

I'm interviewing on Wednesday for Cardiac Stepdown, but I don't know what to expect with the remainder of Irma storming through. I'm in Huntsville, AL and we've got rain and horrible winds right now. Everything closed for tomorrow here and I don't know if I'll be driving up to Nashville during the storm on Wednesday. I suck at following weather. Anyone know if would email or call me if they decide to cancel my interview?

Did anyone else interview for Cardiac Stepdown? If so, what was it like? Did they ask about previous experience in specific situations or just like a best/worst story from your point of view? I'm nervous because I don't have tons of experience with heart stuff.

6-12 weeks is standard orientation time down here for new grad nurses at my hospital. Congrats to everyone who already got offers! I'm trying to decide if I want to try to get a prn peds job elsewhere if I do end up getting offered a job at Vandy. I really do love kids and am bummed that I didn't get offered an interview in any pediatric area at Vandy.

Anyone know what color scrubs we will wear at ? I'd like to go ahead and start finding some that are on sale and whatnot

If nobody knows on here, then I'll just ask tomorrow. lol I'm curious too!

Open uniform policy and tshirts are allowed too but not sure about scrub pants -I think maybe those depend on units? Not 100% sure though-just what I've heard from current employees.

I was told that they can wear any color, but ER and Trauma have specific colors. Trauma is black and ER is something else. But anyone can wear those colors if they want.

I guess that means I can start finding some. Anyone have suggestions on ones they like? I wore koi pant for nursing school but I think I want something not as baggy now.

So what happens after accepting the offer? Any instructions as far as assistance with finding housing or what we need to have prior pñorientation or help with transferring licensure or anything as far as instructions ?

They told me we would get more information and be added to the Facebook cohort group in October. We should probably start gathering our immunization records together, though.

I really like Greys Anatomy brand! They are super comfortable and a good fit.

December grad here. I didn't think I would qualify for the NR program since my GPA is low (3.3-3.4), but since I saw they extended applications I figured it wouldn't hurt to apply. I have a previous bachelors degree and I'm coming from a one year accelerated BSN program so maybe that will help score an interview so I can really tell them why they need me!

My GPA is actually a lot lower! My overall GPA is 3.0 and nursing is 2.5. I've heard that they'll take accelerated BSN students and I don't see why they wouldn't prefer that. I think that's pretty awesome! Shows you've got experience and are willing to work hard for whatever you want.

Hello! I just got accepted to Cardiac Stepdown! Anyone else accepted to this unit/program? I am coming from across the country!
