Vanderbilt Nurse Residency Program Summer 2013

U.S.A. Tennessee

This thread is for those who are applying for the nurse residency program at Vanderbilt. I thought this would be a great place to keep up to date Inge selection process and make connections with new friends and colleagues. I am currently in my final year of nursing school at UCCS in Colorado. My goals are to be accepted for the adult critical care track an then return to school and become a CRNA. I know the job market is very competitive, especially for residency programs. I completed the online application 2 days ago and am waiting to hear back for more instructions. Good luck to everyone:)

Hey, I am applying for the critical care track. This program seems extremely competitive. My overall GPA is only a 3.2 and I do not have volunteer experience and I did not have any preceptorships/ internships although I have worked as a Pedi NA for over 4 years. How is everyone else's GPAs and experience?

I am also interested to know how many slots there are per track- I'm sure it varies each year with the number of openings, and there may not be any way to find out for our particular cohort. As soon as someone receives a follow up email or interview please post so we will know!!!! Anyone else applying for psych track?

Hello. I applied for the Emergency Nursing Track. I currently work at vanderbilt, so I might be able to help answer some questions you have. If you go the nurse website you can look at the schedule for the new nurse residents thats graduated in Dec. it shows how many they hired for each track. Total I think they hired 125ish. Good Luck Everyone

Has anyone who sent in there applications a day or two before the deadline received a confirmation email yet?

Nevermind!

Applied for the Pediatric track.. crossing fingers hoping to get an interview! I feel I have a pretty good chance. I just hope that all this work I have been doing pays off with this residency!

Specializes in Urology, Liver Transplant, Tele.

Hey guys! I am glad to see you have started a post for the next residency program. I am a nurse at Vanderbilt and am one of the preceptors used for the med-surg track. You guys have chosen a wonderful program! Our nurse residents are often our favorite employees. Although I was not a nurse resident myself I wanted to make myself available for any questions you have about the hospital or about Nashville. I moved to Nashville about a year and a half ago and didn't have any real contacts so it was a hard transition. I would love to help make yours a little easier! Hope to talk to some of you soon!

I too have applied for the critical care track and graduate in April, 63 days to go !! My current GPA is 3.81 and I have some volunteer experience as well as an internship in an ICU. I don't think either is required though. Good Luck to us all !

I applied to the Medical or Surgical Track. From what I've seen of past forums here, they usually send out whether you get an interview or not around now, so I've started the 'check email every 5 minutes' process. Good luck everyone!

Just got my rejection email for women's health. Best of luck to the rest of y'all!

Emails are being sent out.... no interview for me :(

Hi Guys! No interview for me either. (I applied for the ER tract.) I am an EMT and have worked on an ambulance and as a trauma tech in a Level 1 trauma center... I did an MSN program and just passed the NCLEX... I have a 3.9 GPA, tons of medical volunteer experience, and held a leadership position in my program. I did over a year (Med-surg 1 and Med-Surg II) on the trauma unit at a 50-bed Level 1 Trauma center-- and did my final preceptorship on this unit as well. So when I got the rejection letter, I wasn't exactly sure what more I could have done. So I sent an email to the nurse recruiter asking her how I could be more competitive for next time? She told me that offers to interview were based solely on the "pre-interview score"... Which doesn't exactly clear things up for me.

Anyone out there with an offer to interview that can shed some light on things? How about you ED folks-- any suggestions?

Thanks & CONGRATS to everyone who got an interview! Know that you are the "cream of the crop" and you should feel very proud of your accomplishments. Well done. :)
