Vanderbilt Nurse Residency Program Summer 2013

U.S.A. Tennessee

This thread is for those who are applying for the nurse residency program at Vanderbilt. I thought this would be a great place to keep up to date Inge selection process and make connections with new friends and colleagues. I am currently in my final year of nursing school at UCCS in Colorado. My goals are to be accepted for the adult critical care track an then return to school and become a CRNA. I know the job market is very competitive, especially for residency programs. I completed the online application 2 days ago and am waiting to hear back for more instructions. Good luck to everyone:)

Hey! I'm going to do an on-site interview. Most likely going to drive up there since plane tickets from PBI to Nashville are about $400 right now. The drive is about 12 hours I believe so it would definitley be less expensive than flying!

For those who received interview offers, could you please share your background and experience? I'd like to know how to make my application more competitive for the next round. Thank you and congratulations on getting interviews!

Hi! I am currently in a BSN program. My overall GPA and Nursing GPA were both a 3.5. After one year of clinical rotations, I applied for a nurse intern position on a pediatric unit at a local hospital and have been working there since. I am currently the president of my university's chapter of the Nursing Students' Association (have held this position for a year and a half now) and am a nursing peer tutor in my School of Nursing. I am an active member of the Nurses Christian Fellowship and NSNA. I had no clinical or hospital volunteer experience in the last 6 months on my application. I honestly believe that it was my recommendations and letter of intent that landed me an interview for the pediatric track. Hope this helps and good luck! :)

Yea I can't believe how expensive it is to fly! I almost feel like with gas money it would be expensive to drive to so may be worth it to fly, let me know when your planning to go.. I'm thinking March 12 for my Spring break, it would be nice to have someone to explore with!

DAS225- I have a 3.9 Nursing GPA, participated in a nurse externship this summer in NY in the pediatric ER, volunteer at a local children's hospital, volunteered in a children's hospital while studying abroad, am an active member NSNA, and in addition to my pediatric clinical rotation I am currently in the PICU for my senior preceptorship. I hope this helps!

I'm planning to go either March 5th for my spring break or March 19th! I was originally planning on the 12th too, but that week of school is my first week of preceptorship.

For those of you that are interviewing, have you received a confirmation for your interview time yet? or how does that work? I sent in the times I could come, but I have not received an email back confirming which day and time..

bamagirl91 - I haven't received a confirmation email yet either and I replied on Thursday!

let me know if anyone is going to be there for their interview on the 12th

My interview is set for March 19th at 2! Anyone else that day?:)

Mine is set for March 11th at 8am. I'm ready for the 12 hour roadtrip!

Skype (in my opinion) doesn't hurt your chances if you do it properly. Make sure you're totally alone and uninterruptable. I would also make sure the computer you're using has a hardline (ethernet) to your modem or router, don't use wireless.

Also, test-run it several times with some friends to make sure you're connected well, your microphone works well and you can hear them well.

As long as the computer and skype is working fine, and there isn't a single distraction or interruption they can interview you just like they would in person.

Hello everyone!

I am from California and applied to the Peds. track. I am super nervous for the sykpe interview!

Congrats to everyone who got an interview! I am doing mine March 19th at 2.

@snfairfax: what track are you? i am just wondering since we are scheduled at the same time. they don't do group interviews do they?

Catie812- I'm peds track too!!:) that is odd we're at the same time, but I'm doing mine in person? Maybe they have a separate group of people that do the Skype interviews? That's so odd!
