Vanderbilt MSN 2020

Updated:   Published

I just attended Vanderbilt's fall open house for the 2020 year and I'm really excited to be applying! I'm hoping to connect with other Vandey applicants so we can offer support and info along this process. I am applying to the post BSN dual CNM/ FNP program.

Hi everyone!

My name is Ashley. I applied to the FNP distance learning track (from California). So far, I’ve received an email confirming that my application would be reviewed in the priority group & an email regarding financial aid.

Im so happy I’ve found this forum! It’s so nice to not feel alone on this journey. I really appreciate everyone’s updates. I wish all of you the best of luck! ?

Let's say we do get accepted into the program (fingers crossed), does anyone know how much time they give us before we have to put down a deposit and reserve our spot?

I applied to 2 other accelerated BSN programs just in case I'm not admitted into any MSN programs at these prestigious universities ( I also applied to Penn & Columbia msn/np). One of the BSN programs accepted me this week which is super exciting, but I only have until February 11th to reserve my spot for that program & I'm doubtful that we will hear back from VSN by then.

Just sharing my predicament in case anyone else is in a similar position, but any info regarding the first question would be appreciated ??

I also applied to Columbia. Just out of curiosity, out of those three, which is your first choice?

I got my acceptance letter last year on February 22 and I had until March 15th to put down the deposit.

Hey this may seem random but I want to encourage those who think they won't fit in or be able to handle it to come if you are accepted. The school is good at accepting people who are able to do this work. It is comparatively diverse (economically and ethnically) for its category of program (top tier, competitive, accelerated...) and some of my friends who are doing tops in this program have had IEPs growing up or still need accommodations--Dyslexia, dyscalculia("math dyslexia"), ADHD. Our dean advises us to consider students who need accommodations whenever we are asked for input on test taking preferences. If they accept you--even from the waitlist, you can handle it!

Penn is definitely my top choice with the next being Vanderbilt then Columbia. I think each of the programs are equally as "good" in education, faculty, resources, etc. but Penn is just closest to my family in NJ and close to the public health work I've been doing in northern Delaware. That being said, I'd be happy to be accepted to any of the programs!

Does anyone know much they base their decisions on the personal statement? I know it's quite a bit but I feel like I messed up and it's automatically going to rule me out. I feel like I am a competitive applicant in GPA, experience, and references, but I keep looking at my personal statement and I just don't think I did a good job at displaying my accomplishments or really why I chose Vanderbilt for a MSN... maybe I'm just getting nervous because we are getting closer to finding out..

I guess I should say that I am currently a PreSpecialty student at Vandy.

I’d say the statement of purpose and essay questions are heavily reviewed according to a current student. But, I wouldn’t get too discouraged. Vanderbilt is looking for unique candidates and will consider the whole picture. Just be patient ?

I think they reason they stress that the review process is holistic is because one component of your application can't automatically rule you out. I haven't met anyone that has looked back at their personal statement and didn't think they could have made some changes. I wouldn't get too worked up over it at this point. Like someone said in the UPenn group: "Find a nice beach and relax. Y'all will do great."

Hey Everyone,

I have a dot between the green check mark and word "received" all the way down my application checklist. I think this is new. Does everyone else have this? I'm wondering if it means they have reviewed my application.

I don’t have that.
