Hi! I'm starting a thread for Vanderbilt MSN Fall 2018. Anyone else applying too? Please comment!
Does being OMTA v MTA have an impact on admission? I think when I did my application I put I wanted to be in MTA for the specialty year, but I'll literally go anywhere!!!
It all depends on who forfeits their spot - MTA or OMTA applicants. I'm thinking MTA is less likely to move someplace else, but it's kind of unpredictable.
@Ripetomatoes what program did you apply to? I am still waiting to hear back, something, anything.
I applied to the direct entry PNP program. I was feeling pretty good because my interview went well, but I'm guessing their decision was based on a lot more than that.
Best of luck Chappie, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! And congrats to everyone else who got in or waitlisted!
I just spoke to Vandy about the wait list. It is not ranked. Applications are essentially re-evaluated IF someone forfeits their spot, which seems less likely for MTA applicants. You can change to OMTA, but you can't be both MTA and OMTA while on the wait list. Most people will decline their spot between now and March 14, but obviously people may drop into July. She said some years, they never pull from the wait list.Good luck my fellow wait listed friends!
Huh. When I did my interview the person who spoke with me said the wait list usually moves quickly and last year about 1/3 of wait listed folks were eventually offered acceptance. She really emphasized that a wait list decision is considered a favorable decision so maybe it varies by specialty (I applied midwifery/FNP).

I hope you're right. I spoke with the PNP counselor in admissions. :/
Can any of the current students on this thread speak to their confidence in the program so far? I know Vandy is a great school, but as I am comparing schools right now, every program is 3+ years except for Vandy's 2 yrs. Do you feel that you will be a well prepared NP at the end of the 2yr program?
In the fall, it was class from 8-4 M-W. Thursday and Friday schedules were dependent on which day you had clinical, so one day was hospital clinical (6-4), and the other day was lab (8-3 or 4).For the spring: We generally are in class from 8-3 or 8-4 on Monday and Tuesdays. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday are different depending on which community health placement you are in. One of those days is a half day reserved for community health clinicals, one of those days is a 12 hr day reserved for hospital clinicals, and then the other day is a "conference" day (half day) where you discuss your clinical experience. However, the psych rotation is different; instead of having 1 clinical day and 1 conference day like the other rotations, psych has you in the hospital both days but do a conference at the end of the day (each day being 8 hours).
Tests are taken outside of class time, and I usually take them on the weekends. I will study for maybe 4-5 hours a test, but some people study 30 hours a test; you just have to see what works for you. Each test is 2 hours each. We have a pathophysiology test every roughly every 2-3 weeks, and then a pharmacology test every 5ish weeks. The other classes this semester don't have exams, but we have out of class homework that I usually spend 1-3 hours a week on.
Im wondering if you are able to retain all of the information at such an accelerated pace. I know your answer is dependent on personal abilities, but in general, are other students and you able to commit information to long term memory, or are you studying just for exams, then its onto the next thing? Im afraid I won't be able to let the information sink in :/

Thanks! I'm pre specialty FNP, so I'm not sure if they have a set number of spots for direct entry and pre specialty or not, but hopefully what they told you about the wait list is good news for me. I'm still losing my mind because I haven't heard anything at all - no status update on my application so I don't know if I'm flat out rejected, waitlisted, or (highly unlikely) accepted.
