Vanderbilt MSN 2018

Published

Hi! I'm starting a thread for Vanderbilt MSN Fall 2018. Anyone else applying too? Please comment!

@amb1794 hey ! I saw your response about them saying they pulled 1/3 of waitlisted people last year. And I wanted to ask you do we need to worry about the OMTA versus MTA if we're on the waitlist for FNP/midwifery ? Because since FNP is hybrid I thought it did not relate. Let me know what you think if you don't mind.. trying to figure that out .

Can any of the current students on this thread speak to their confidence in the program so far? I know Vandy is a great school, but as I am comparing schools right now, every program is 3+ years except for Vandy's 2 yrs. Do you feel that you will be a well prepared NP at the end of the 2yr program?

I am not a current student but had an extensive phone conversation with someone that graduated from PreSpecialty midwifery last year. She emphasized that she felt well prepared and that regardless of the amount of time you are in school, your first year as a new grad will be challenging and overwhelming. She also noted that the program focuses on APRN, rather than the RN role. Therefore, you learn the basic skillset during PreSpecialty and immediately begin preparing for the NCLEX, however, they don't spend a ton of time making sure you are highly proficient as an RN in a hospital setting. This may be a positive or negative depending on personal goals. She added that she did not have any problems being hired without taking time in-between RN and NP to work as an RN...as the roles greatly differ anyway. Also, a deciding factor should be if you truly desire a DNP, which in her experience is not necessary to work as an NP, and can be obtained later while working as an NP (sometimes paid for by employers). She said Vanderbilt is super supportive, and available for their students. She really loved the midwifery program and had friends in FNP and AGPCNP that had great experiences as well. Feel free to PM me with any other questions as I may be able to pass along information gathered from this conversation. I was really on the fence because of the same concern but after speaking with her I cancelled my visiting days to other schools and Vanderbilt is now my first choice. Im also 31, so length of program is a big factor for me and I now feel confident in Vanderbilts program.

Anyone interviewing during the round 2 interviews (post Nov 1 app completion/receipt), when did your interviewers say decisions would be sent out? Or are decisions to be made on rolling basis?

I interviewed today for round 2 PMHNP. The interviewers told me not to expect to hear back for a few months :-/

Oh no. :( Looks like I'll have to give up on Vanderbilt and accept another program.

What is the deadline to accept/decline admissions offer to prespecialty MSN programs?

I got my decision on 2-14 and the letter said that I had to accept the offer and pay the deposit by 3-14. So I a month to have my decision in.

I am a round 2 applicant! I think they said I could expect an official decision by mid March.

Good Afternoon, I am a round one applicant who interviewed Feb 13th. I called today and they said PMHNP decisions will go out for round 2 at the end of March.

-So there is still a chance :-)

Does anyone know anything about the waitlist? How does it work with the "round 2" applicants vs being on the waitlist?
