For prospective applicants for the 2017 year in the program. Being as I am currently wait listed in the 2016 year due to a very late application, there is a high probability I would have to apply again come November 1st 2016 for the following year acceptance.

November 1st, 2016 is the priority application deadline for the 2017 year. All materials (GRE, official transcripts, application payment, letters of recommendation, statement of intent) must have been submitted by this date.

Letters of acceptance for August 2016 orientation and start were sent out the first week of February 2016. Wait listed recipients received their wait list offer in an around the first week of March 2016 with the caveat that seats may open well into late July.

Hey all! Just finished my interview. Overall, I think it went excellently.

One new piece of information, maybe specifically for CNM applicants: he told me that they were expecting letters to go out late Feb/early March. This kind of surprised me, as it's gone out earlier in past years, even though they had a later deadline than we did this year. But I guess that's the newest update for anyone waiting... we've got a long way to go!

If they are done selecting the cohort sooner then they will send out the admission offers sooner. They don't hold back the decisions if they are ready to go out. ;) Remember that VUSN has a rolling admissions program, not set deadlines like other programs.

Congrats to everyone receiving interviews! I applied to the Pre-Specialty PMHNP program and haven't heard anything yet... starting to get nervous!

I'm in about the same boat as you on GPA and GRE, with a couple more years experience. I have also not heard anything about an interview. From what I understand, with our specialty they only interview to make clerifications to the application. So probably a good sign that we didn't get an interview.

Hey all! Long-time lurker. I applied pre-specialty PMHNP and have an interview scheduled for 12/28, I'm super nervous/excited about it.

After reading previous threads I thought interviews were only given if the review committee needed clarification on your application. For those that have interviewed, did that seem to be a common theme? I also interviewed for UT-Austin and it was very similar to a standard job interview. Did the faculty you interviewed with have access to your entire application for you to expound on?

hey! As far as interviews go, it depends on your program. Some, like the CNM, will always do interviews with competitive candidates. Others, like FNP, do not do interviews (except maybe if they need clarification? Not sure on that). I'd recommend looking back through this thread and seeing if others in PMHNP have talked about doing interviews. I think that program does require them, but I'm not totally sure.

When I had my interview (CNM) they did seem to have my whole application in front of them, as it was referenced several times and they even quoted parts of my essay.

Hi there,

It seems that a lot of the pre-specialty PMHNP applicants have been asked for interviews. But has anyone who applied for the non pre-specialty PMHNP program been asked to interview at this time?

Also.. I called the admissions office several weeks ago and was told the the non pre-specialty PMHNP interviews were not mandatory like some of the other programs. Hope this helps some people!

Do we know if the prespecialty PMHNP interviews are guaranteed? Or was there a first cut?

It is my understanding it is a first cut, but not sure on that

I had my interview today for non pre-specialty PMHNP. They notified me about it on Dec 19. It was pretty quick--they asked about my reasons for getting into nursing/psych, and wanted to know my career goals and if I'd given any thought to where I might do clinicals. It's hard to interview over the phone but I think it went okay?

Specializes in Rheumatology NP.

It's my understanding that Vanderbilt always conducts interviews for PMHNP due to the nature of the role. They simply want to ensure that people are getting into the field for the right reasons and seem to be generally grounded. CNM also always conducts interviews.

The other specialties conduct interviews only as needed or on a case-by-case basis, some more frequently than others.

Hello All..I am a current PMHNP pre-specialty student. As far as the GRE is concerned, it is not weighted very heavily. However, if your undergrad or pre-reequisite GPA is low you may want to perform well. My GRE score hit the bare minimums but my undergrad GPA was 3.93 and pre-reqs, 4.0. I have been out of school for a while and did not study for the GRE so I was counting on my personal and work experience and grades, as well as my interview. Additionally, I applied in December and was accepted in March.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi mccampion,

I was curious about the interview process. Do you know how many applicants are interviewed vs. how many are accepted? During the open house last March I remember one of the presenters saying something about it, but I have since forgotten :/ Also, are you aware of average scores/GPA, etc for your cohort? Lastly, do you remember anything standing out during your phone interview?

Thanks!
