I haven't seen a thread yet for 2016 hopefuls, so I thought I'd start one. After much research and changing my mind back and forth, I decided to go for the Vanderbilt MSN. I would be direct entry as I already have my BSN. I finally decided on Pediatric Primary Care. I'm just worried about getting a job after graduation as I'm not really seeing much in the way of openings in the Nashville area--which is where I live.
Yeah I initially thought there were 3 pre-specialty ones as well, but I was told on the phone there's only on (which makes sense when you read the definitions online). I guess there's no way to tell how competitive the applicant pool was, but my guess is everyone is pretty great! Especially since so many people are applying to multiple programs. Since there's apparently no essay it seems that it's out of our hands. Thanks for the replies everyone! :)
So the wording on the website was changed recently, though I am still not totally clear how many of the 3 first-year scholarships are for pre-specialty vs direct-entry students. Here's what it says:
"The School of Nursing offers 6 full tuition scholarships each year as well as partial scholarships...For first year students, consideration for one of the three full scholarships and the amount of partial scholarship awards are based upon an individual's GPA and GRE, GMAT or other standardized test score. Scholarships for 2nd year/returning students are based on a student's GPA for their first two semesters in the nursing program. We offer three full tuition scholarships for students who will be entering their specialty year and to be considered for one of the three full tuition scholarships, the student must have earned a 4.0 in their first semester and a 4.0 in their second semester. The student must have entered the program as a PreSpecialty student."
I also just called, and they confirmed that there is no essay this year, and they are making decisions based based on GPA/GRE and goal statements. Recipients should hear within 2 weeks (before the deposit deadline), and if we don't hear anything then it means we didn't get it.
That's good to hear! I was wondering about the timing of hearing back (or not) and putting down the deposit. Knowing the goal statement is a factor makes me nervous since I only wrote 1 page DOUBLE spaced (what I was told to do) but obviously I don't know if I'm even if the running! I had a 3.9+ and solid GRE scores but I feel like a lot of people are 3.9 and above, and if there really are more than 1 applicants with perfect 4.0's I feel like they'll be looking at them first...

My letter of acceptance said that I was being offered a partial scholarship. I wonder if that is a different thing than this - I believe it was a partial scholarship that everybody got some amount for. Anybody know if that's a whole different thing?
Yes I'm pretty sure the full scholarship is different. Everyone was offered a partial scholarship in the amount of $3000-11,500, but no one has heard about full scholarships yet. So I assume if you are offered the full scholarship then that would take the place of the partial amount for the year - or maybe you'd get to keep that for living expenses?
I agree with sml14 - I think that the full ride would presumably replace the other one, and then you would get the amount in the email your second year (I read someone else's post that they heard the amount for the first year is supposed to be the same the second year). I wish I knew who was deciding who got it/who (or how many) they had in the running! I could totally be worrying about some potential money and not even be in their group of finalists, haha. I guess it's kind of nice that there's no essay though - officially out of our hands and nothing to spend too much time fretting about!
Has there been anyone who has actually turned down a Vanderbilt offer? The pre-specialty CNM program has 25 seats open. I am curious if anyone has decided to go elsewhere or not go especially for this program.
Also, did other CNM pre-specialty potentials also have an interview? I know others were saying that in their program(s) interviews didn't happen this year. I am wondering if they decided to interview waitlist individuals only. I was interviewed which is why I ask :)

I thought there were 3 full scholarships for pre specialty and 3 for specialty year. Could be wrong. Decided on academic merit for the first year, and second year chosen if you have a 4.0 your first two semesters.
