How long are people keeping their lady partsl table set-ups for delivery open for? Is there a standard length of time that is suggested before having to "Tear-down" ?

Have you looked at AWHONN/AORN standards?

I believe JCAHO says 1 hour max.

Do we mean 1 hour uncovered? We make the sterile table set up, then cover it up and it is "good" (for lack of a better term) for 12 hours, and if not used by then, must make another.

Barring some horrifically long perineal repair, the table isn't usually uncovered for more than an hour.

We usually set up our tables right before delivery and don't cover them unless we have guessed wrong about how long Mom is going to push. We have a sterile drape to cover the table with if necessary. To be honest, I have never thought about how long a table should be set up before it must be taken down and a new one done.

We have always used 8 hrs, covered and 1 hour open, not sure where this came form though.:nurse:

i would love to know how long is a set up good for? one that is cover and that no one put stuff on top or peek at it? would love to know how long? thank u'

Our hospital also uses the 12 hour rule for a covered setup. IDK for uncovered as we just never uncover until the provider is ready to gown up/delivery is imminent. Our techs say 2 hours for an OR to be "open" but IDK if this is a standard or something they conjured up on their own.

At one facility we would write down the time and tear down if not used within 12 hours. Where I work now we don't even bother labeling. Most providers are of the opinion that it's not a sterile procedure, anyway. There's lady parts and poo. Not exactly a sterile environment.

We're now being told by Infection Control that we are not to set up a lady partsl table until it is ready to be used. Real pain in the a**.

Weird, we never set-up until we are ready to deliver. OK, maybe when we call the docs to come for delivery. If the tech can't do it, the nurse does it herself. I can't imagine why you'd want a table set-up for 12 hours. It would just take up room, IMO
