VA Palo Alto New Grad Program 2023

Published

Didn't see a forum regarding the VA Palo Alto New Grad Program that's supposed to start in July. I heard decisions are supposed to be solidified mid-April, so I was wondering if anyone heard back yet for interviews, etc?

I also scheduled mine at the SF VA, but I saw on the site to make appointments that dedicated sites are designated for that agency's employees/applicants only. When it shows SF VA it shows that its location is restricted to Agency, so I'm confused if we are allowed to go there or not.

Yes same here I am confused as well.

Hi,

I thought I'd add my timeline for an NP position.

Interviewed May, 18th

Tentative offer June 16th

I submitted the background check information, had my fingerprints, completed VetPro all except the Declaration of Health form. It's my holdup right now. I didn't know this would be needed and it requires a physician's signature stating I'm mentally and physically able to work. This is in VetPro and not related to the employee physical.

Employee physical is scheduled on July 25th.

I'm going to an urgent care and ask for a pre employment physical to have the form signed. I'll have to pay out of pocket for it. If anyone is going through the process, start working on this early. It can be signed by a co worker but there are no physicians in my clinic, my PCP retired, and I don't know of anyone to sign the form so it's a speed bump.  Hope this helps someone.

Can you get a former classmate to sign?   Or can it not be signed by a FNP and has to be a M.D.?

Has to be an MD. I submitted it with an NP but she said no.

At an urgent care now, I hope the MD will sign it.

The Urgent Care MD signed it so, whew! $150 though.

Hope this helps someone. Next, employee physical.

What did the physical there entail?  Just heart/lung assessment and checking off boxes on the form you provided?  Or did you have to gown up?

I haven't gone to the employee physical yet so not sure. It's next Wednesday.

This was for the VetPro credentialing. There's a form asking for a physician's signature to say the person has no physical or mental illness preventing them for performing their duties.  The urgent care did a checkup UA, vitals, vision, lungs, etc and signed it. No gown.

I'll post again after the employee one.

Hi everyone! I applied for the November cohort and I was wondering how long it took y'all to hear back for an interview once the application closed. The one I applied for closed on July 23rd, so I know it is still early, but just curious about your experience. Thank you!

You do not need to get a physical for the DOA.  It can be signed by any MD/DO.  As long as their MD/DO is an active license in the US it can be signed and accepted.  All the form is stating is that the doctor feels you are capable to do your job.  They also cannot be related by blood or marriage and believe me they will find out.

Which department did you apply for?  Is this for the VA PALO ALTO?  They have new grads for November?  I thought it was only once a year.  Little do I know

It's for the "RN - New Graduate" in Palo Alto. I was surprised when I came across the application. I don't think it's the same program that everyone thinks about, which requires no previous RN experience. I applied for ED, MedSurg, and Rehab.

Good luck!  I hope you get in to any of those programs.

Thank you! I hope so too. It's been nothing but let downs lately.
