VA HPSP 2020 - Scholarship Award Updates?

Hey guys,

Just curious if anyone else here applied for the Veterans Affairs Health Professional Scholarship Program this year for PMHNP. I've been seeing lots of posts on other forums for different specialities (pharm, med, PA, BSN) but nothing from psych NP applicants. If anyone has heard back or is nervously awaiting as well, I'd love to connect. I'm feeling really hopeful about the opportunity and the silence is killing me! ?

I can imagine the anticipation - it's a big unknown that's approaching quickly! I'm a year out and already feeling some suspense LOL. In the email I recently received, it was also mentioned that if there's a particular site on the list you want to be at, there's a good chance of being able to match you there. So I think they're taking preferences into account as much as possible, which is nice to know. And it sounded like there is suppose to be a pretty quick turnaround with notification of final placement after ranking submission. They do all seem like great programs, but I hope you're able to find out soon & start making plans!

I have been checking my email all day everyday like my mind is bad! I really hope they send this list out soon! It's a challenge planning a move and not knowing where the move will be. There is alot of planning that goes into a move when you have a family. I am assuming they will send the email out and everything will be sent out about the local area that we will be assigned to. Fingers crossed it will be sent out today!

Wishing you the best! Can’t wait to hear if you got your top choice (I bet you did)!

Has anyone heard anything else about the HPSP PMHNP timeframe of the residency availability list? I reached out again last week but did not get any response yet. I know they are busy and I am probably not the first or second to send out an email. Thanks in advance.

Oh my gosh, that's agonizing! I'm so sorry ? The last communication I received on 1/22 said, "for the 2021 graduates the list comes out next week.  The plan is to get you the list 6-8 months prior to graduation." So it sounded really soon, but perhaps recent changes to the placement process have sort of slowed things down this year. As someone with two kids, I totally dread all the hassles of moving & understand where you are coming from.. it's like preparing for a mission to the moon LOL.

Well the good news is the list came out yesterday evening. But, the bad news is that although they do have 14 locations,  they are not always available. I have 6 choices that are no where near the east coast but I am still grateful for this opportunity. Completely not what I expected. So now I have to do the six in the order of my wish list. I'm excited for this adventure. They arw all good programs!

Oh noooo. I graduate in December and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for somewhere on the east coast. Can you tell me which locations were available? I know the list will probably be a bit different in December but I'm just curious!

Yes, Rodney said the list will be different. The Pmhnp program had:

Albuquerque New mexico

Boston Massachusetts

Kansas city Missouri

Manchester New Hampshire

Togus Maine

Sacramento California

It seems like we are all east-coasters ?  I'm super curious what the options are too, if you don't mind sharing. Congrats on moving on to the next step!! ?

Thanks a lot for sharing! Having only lived on the east coast personally, those locations do feel sort of random - but, regardless, an awesome adventure/opportunity awaits! ?

I agree! I will finish my wish list over the weekend. It's alot of things to consider. I will keep everyone posted about the time frame of the decisions/acceptance to a residency program. I hope it will be soon.

Hello!

Has anyone applied this year/waiting to hear back?

Is anyone interested in having a facebook group for VA HPSP recipients/applicants? I'm a PMHNP student in the program now and feel like it would be great to network and share questions/experiences with other recipients, since a lot of relevant info isn't readily available online. I've seen a facebook group for VA HPSP med students/physicians, but nothing for PMHNP or BSN.  If anyone would like to join, here's a link for a FB I've created (or you can search for VA HPSP (Nursing) on FB):
