I hate to be negative...but...and from different posts you will here different things about VA. As a new graduate....I say do not go for VA...unless you do some real life investigation of the facility. I have not seen a 'real' preceptor ship for new nurses. I have seen alot of "eating the young"....check out a variety of facilities. You want a good, solid preceptorship for sure. Good Luck, Welcome to the nursing profession!!! :)
eating their young is not specific to any facility, unfortunately. It just is in nursing, which is sad.

I absolutely loved the veteran population and really enjoyed taking care of them as a student nurse tech. It can be pretty brutal amongst the nursing staff though but I suspect that is anywhere you go. I don't know if I will go back because of the strong personalities. I wonder if I can get in working at a clinic for the vets instead. The med surge floor was pretty stressful and I think that is when the difficult personalities come out. It was well staffed except on the weekends and the vets were always complimenting the nursing care there. So it really depends where you think you can fit in and be comfortable. Time will tell for sure.
