Could anyone give me some info on working at the Va Hospital. I will be graduating in May 2009
I hate to be negative...but...and from different posts you will here different things about VA. As a new graduate....I say do not go for VA...unless you do some real life investigation of the facility. I have not seen a 'real' preceptor ship for new nurses. I have seen alot of "eating the young"....check out a variety of facilities. You want a good, solid preceptorship for sure. Good Luck, Welcome to the nursing profession!!! :)
Hello,
I am also a May 2009 grad who's applied to the VA in Nashville. I have talked to nurses who worked at the VA in Nashville and in Denver and they love it, and they both said new grads starrt at $19-23/hour, depending. My question is: How long is "awhile" for the application process to take? The VA in Nashville told me not to apply until close to graduation, so I'm worried that I might not get hired for months. Anyone willing to share how long they had to wait to get an interview, etc? Thanks!

I was just hired as a Student RN for 22.23 an hour. I have no past medical experience. I don't know who told what but thats the truth. It does take a while for all the red tape. I will be starting in June after I graduate, I'm so excited. The benefits are great.
