Does anyone here currently work at the Denver VA Hospital? I am currently working for the VA on the east coast, and considering a transfer---my fiance got a job in Denver...
Any input as to job satisfaction, pay, specialties would be appreciated. I am currently working as a BSN on a Med/Surg Tele unit. Thanks!

I work at the Denver VA and love it! I've been there almost 3 years as an ICU nurse. I think the pay is very good, especially compared with other local hospitals. Our med/surg floors are very busy. 4South is mostly surgical, 5North is mostl medical, and 5South is medical/rehab. Not sure how many openings there are right now, but you can check out www.denver.va.gov We are building a new hospital, estimated completion in 2014.
Feel free to email me for more info.
Thanks for the response! I love our hospital's ICU, and would like to work critical care as well. I have emailed the nurse recruiter at your VA. Could you possibly tell me what a grade 1 step 4 makes in Denver? That is what I am. I am currently making 58,195 at that level here. Also, what are some affordable neighborhoods close to your hospital. His grandma has a house in Wheatridge, but we aren't too familiar with close/safe areas in Denver.

Are most units 8s or 12s? What units run 12 hour shifts?
Our VA (in the Northern VA/MD/ DC) area is unique unit to unit. Some moms like to work only 8 hour tours, I prefer 12. Are you in CO Summit? If so, where at? Where do you work? Any advice on finding a job?
Grade 1 step 4 RN at the Denver VA $56418 (without any of the differentials)

Hey, I am looking to move to Denver from Birmingham AL where I am about to finish nursing school from UAB. I currently work in the VA ER as a tech, and I am involved with the VA valor (or sometimes called the VA VANA program). I would like to work in the ER at the VA in Denver if at all possible, but would also not mind working on the floor or an ICU. I was wondering if any of you have the contact names (and maybe extensions) for the nurse managers doing the hirings right now?
Also, http://www.usajobs.gov is the website I use to look for jobs. Are there any other websites I should use? Thanks.
I am in CO, but I am in school right now... one of the zillion who will be looking for a job.
Thanks!!! That would only be a small pay cut :) Also, I emailed the nurse recruiter---is she worth a call?? (ours is super friendly and approachable)

How do you like your job at the VA in DC? I am hopeing to get a job there soon:) If I can ask, DId you start there as new grad?
Yes. I did start as a new grad. but I did do a summer residency from May-Dec in the VALOR program, then was hired full-time in January as an RN.
How do you like it there? When I interviewed the nurse manager and clinical resource where so nice and it seemed like a great place to work. I to am a new grad(RN), but have been an LPN for 15 years. I inteviewed back in October and really want to work there.
