Just spoke to a friend in Florida recently. She said the job market for nurses there is not good right now. She basically said that nursing schools are abundant there and there are too many nurses without enough jobs:(

It has been a long journey( I have been licensed as a new RN since September),but well worth the wait. I, like many other new Rn's have found the job market to be very challenging lately. I applied for numerous(50 or more) jobs in the VA,DC area since then with 5 interviews and no call backs. I was very discouraged and heartbroken since I have been a nurse (LPN) for 15 years and just moving to the area thought it would be a piece of cake. Well it was not. I did not find out till the end of February that I got the VA job, only to find out it was kind of on hold due to budget issues. I stuck it out, and started the long application process at the beginning of march and finally have a start date. It finally feels real:). I can't wait to be back on the floor again so I can continue my life as a nurse. I am now a RN:):) Too all the news grads, keep at it. There are jobs out there, you just have to be in the right place at the right time. I watched the Va job board for a year and applied to everything and I guess my persistence paid off. DC Veterans Hospital

Thanks everyone. I can't wait to start. It's been 9 months and I am so ready. I think they help pay for continuing education, so I can get started on my BSN:) Again, to all those new grads still looking for work. Hang in there, it will come.

Medical/Surgical at a VA hospital:)

I am so excited that I finally found a job:) I have been licensed since August and have applied to over 50 jobs with no luck.I recently found out that I had been chosed for the one I really wanted and I am so excited! Now I am just waiting on a start date. I am writing this so all the new grads out there have some hope. Good luck:)

I guess what I am saying is experience over GPA. GPA only means so much in a profession that is hands on(most of the time). While I learned a lot in RN school, nothing will replace the 15 years experience as a working nurse. GPA is not everything.

I was asked my GPA in an interview in DC. The nurse manager actually said they usually did not interview under a 3.75. I had a 3.02. I was so offended. But then again, that was the worst interview, or should I say interrogation, that i have ever been through.

If you get a interview, the least they could do is let you know the outcome. I can tell you from personal experience in the Dc area, they do not call you to let you know, good or bad. You would think least the HR department would send you a letter, NOT!

How do you like it there? When I interviewed the nurse manager and clinical resource where so nice and it seemed like a great place to work. I to am a new grad(RN), but have been an LPN for 15 years. I inteviewed back in October and really want to work there.

I glad you got the job:) I am just frustrated. I have been an LPN for 15 years and just obtained my RN license and have never had problem getting a job before. I guess I just expect the common courtesy of them calling you back and letting you know either way.

I followed up with emails to all the ones I really wanted(state and government). The state job emailed back and said I would be getting a letter with my status. When I interviewed they said they where very interested in me(exact words) and should get a call in 5 to 10 days. That was 4 weeks ago. As for the government job, I was told when I called 5 months after the interview, that the job was mine( I applied for this one in October). They said the reason they did not call me was because there was a hold on the job and they don't know when it will start. I have started the paperwork, but I until I have an offer I will continue looking. It is the federal government. I guess the could cancel the jonb if they wanted? I could go on and on about the the other 3, but don't want to discourage others like I have been discouraged throughout this process.
