  1. Just spoke to a friend in Florida recently. She said the job market for nurses there is not good right now. She basically said that nursing schools are abundant there and there are too many nurses without enough jobs:(
  2. It has been a long journey( I have been licensed as a new RN since September),but well worth the wait. I, like many other new Rn's have found the job market to be very challenging lately. I applied for numerous(50 or more) jobs in the VA,DC area sinc...

  4. How valuable is speaking Spanish in health care?

Depending on where you live, yes. I will just leave it at that. Kind of sore subject.

I am waiting on a start date. Thanks for all th epositive information on working there :)
  10. Reasonable Nursing School GPA?

I guess what I am saying is experience over GPA. GPA only means so much in a profession that is hands on(most of the time). While I learned a lot in RN school, nothing will replace the 15 years experience as a working nurse. GPA is not everything.
  11. Reasonable Nursing School GPA?

I was asked my GPA in an interview in DC. The nurse manager actually said they usually did not interview under a 3.75. I had a 3.02. I was so offended. But then again, that was the worst interview, or should I say interrogation, that i have ever been...
  12. If you get a interview, the least they could do is let you know the outcome. I can tell you from personal experience in the Dc area, they do not call you to let you know, good or bad. You would think least the HR department would send you a letter, N...
  13. VA Hospital in Denver

How do you like it there? When I interviewed the nurse manager and clinical resource where so nice and it seemed like a great place to work. I to am a new grad(RN), but have been an LPN for 15 years. I inteviewed back in October and really want to wo...
  14. Why So Long to Hear Back From Interview?

I glad you got the job:) I am just frustrated. I have been an LPN for 15 years and just obtained my RN license and have never had problem getting a job before. I guess I just expect the common courtesy of them calling you back and letting you know ei...
  15. Why So Long to Hear Back From Interview?

I followed up with emails to all the ones I really wanted(state and government). The state job emailed back and said I would be getting a letter with my status. When I interviewed they said they where very interested in me(exact words) and should get...
  16. Why So Long to Hear Back From Interview?

I have had 5 interviews in 6 months. ALL the interviews went well with the exception of one. Not one called me back to let me know either way. It's very frustrating.
  17. VA Hospital in Denver

How do you like your job at the VA in DC? I am hopeing to get a job there soon:) If I can ask, DId you start there as new grad?
  18. Wow its really hard to find a job as a NEW GRAD RN...

Finding a job in the DC area is tough! They do prefer BSN over ADN's here. I have 15 years experience as a hospital LPN and that does not even matter. I have been licensed since the end of July and will be working my first job(health fair) as an RN n...
  19. Graduate Nurse with Associate's Degree

I Live in the Dc area and they do prefer BSN's over ADN's. It is also who you know and what school you went to around here. There are about 15 nursing schools in the metro DC (many more in the outer lying area) which are feeder schools to the hospita...

Thanks For all the support. The DC Board notified me today that I passed. It was so nice to see my name with RN behind it!
  21. I just took my nclex Rn yesterday and so want to know if i passed or not. I received this message from the DOH licensing board saying I can not be licensed until I submit my transcripts. I am not trying to read to much into it, but I have read they c...

  23. anyone out there waiting for their NCLEX Rn results?

Well 8 hours to go until I can check the quick results thing. It's going to be killing me at work to know, because no one knows I have taken the test. I like keeping there things quite until I know for sure. Hopefully the board as well as the school ...
  24. Pearson Vue Trick - Does it Work Every Time? Part 2

I just completed my nclex too! Mine shut off at 75. My mom's friend, who is on a board on nursing said i either did really good or I bombed it. I had alot of SATA questions, psych questions, and some really random ones so I have no idea. I did the tr...
  25. I also took mine today and it cutt off at 75 also. I walked out feeling releaved, but at the same time scared to death. I had a lot of pick all that apply questions and those worry me. I had a lot of OB and Pysch questions which are my weaker areas...
