Hello,
I was speaking with someone who works at the VA and there is rumor going around that the VA may switch to Epic. Has anyone else heard that?

If Epic is a commercial EMR I do not see that happening. They only way I see them changing their EMR is when the DOD changes theirs and they have the same one. Could be wrong but after working at the VA and being I active duty and seeing the way the Federal government works they do not do things that make financial sense. Also, they will want to protect job's and not lose them to contractors.
It is a commercial EMR (a fine one at that). Being a vet I know what ya mean.

The government is still seeking bids from contractors. It's way to early to say for sure. The TSWAG conference in D.C. at the end of the month will shed some more light on this. I'll pass along anything useful I find out.

What computerized charting system does the VA currently use? I am in the hiring process for the Dallas VA hospital.
It uses what it calls VISTA II which is a government system and one of the best out there.
Well, I'm now at the VA and I have to say I HATE their electronic charting and medication systems. First off, they're separate (meaning you have to leave one system and then go into the other).
VISTA CPRS is a window operating system - NOTHING like Cerner nor EPIC.
and the emar system is what they call BCMA.
MEDITECH is better than this system, but I shall get use to it (hopefully).
Cerner won the DOD contract - so fingers crossed they will do ours next!?

I couldn't say VistA /CPRS could possibly be considered "one of the best"....it's awful, IMHO.
And seeing how lightning-fast government works to make changes...LOL......I think I'll be retired long before CERNER takes root
Viata II is one of the best I have worked with. Can not say that about Vista which is 1970's programing based on MUMPs which is close to DOS.

Have to co-sign with RNsRwe. I am a VA nurse care manager in primary care. The system is pretty antiquated but I like to compare it to Apple/Mac (not compatiable but reliable)

At the Indy VA, we use Essentris for the ICUs and CPRS for the floors
