Hi future nurses ?
I have started to submit materials to all of the schools that I am applying to this year (yippie!) and saw that the University of Washington's BSN program application opened today.
I thought it might be fun to start a thread for this cohort of applicants for questions, comments, worries, etc.
I am a post-bacc student with a sub-par GPA (3.1 undergrad in Sociology with a 3.6 pre-requisite GPA). I previously earned my CNA license in another state, and I am hoping to get it reinstated in Washington here in the next couple of weeks... and hopefully get some CNA work experience.
I'd love to hear from anyone about their application experiences with UW in the past!
Let's chat ?
1 minute ago, I s said:Healthcare leadership. I worked as a CNA, then med tech, then lead med tech then in supervisory management. I truly love this field and I think that’s why it was easy for me to come to work and want to know and learn everything about healthcare policies, procedures, ethics, etc which matriculated me into management roles.
I also detailed the importance of healthcare equity. In management I learned how dismantling that begins with accountability from us who are entrusted with servicing others.3 of my natural world courses are below a 2.6. This was a direct result of personal hardships I was going through at the time of taking these courses and I made sure that I touched on that briefly. I mention this here because this program truly does weigh each application holistically. Your grades are only a FRACTION of your application. For any future applicants, be sure to be honest about what your ‘why’ is for applying to nursing school. What extensive experience do you not only think should award you a place in nursing school but would make you a GREAT nurse? Congratulations to everyone who was accepted and an early congratulations to all those who were waitlisted or rejected because you WILL get into nursing school and become a great nurse!
I hold a similar position with one of the ladies whom I work for. I've been her private nurse for about 8 years. I'm head charge nurse for her meds since she's special needs and takes schedule class II drugs. I routinely stop by to give her doses, since her state appointed nurses are flaks and are inconsistent. I also advocat her in court with her durable power of attorney. I also took extra courses like medical law & ethics, medical terminology, EMT and phlebotomy to increase my chances. I was still rejected from UW which sucks because I already have a thesis for my research paper.
UW lucked out with my application for BSN because someday I will be a neurosurgeon and reach my dreams.
Never let the fear of rejection keep you from reaching your goals. I've had numerous personal hardships, so I've got a backbone to keep fighting. It's with heavy heart to know it's my time to step forward and accept an offer from out of state.

Congratulations to everyone that was accepted and waitlisted!
Keep pushing. Your going to do great things in the future you have ahead. Take a few days to yourself. I wish you success on your journey to becoming a nurse.
All applicants were invited to the proctored essay, in which they tried something new this cycle. Obviously, it wasn't professional to make changes to the initial dates when we all applied either. I'm sure there are at least 600 broken hearts out there tonight.

It’s hard, it’s past midnight and am still trying to wrap my head around the flat out rejection, did you attend any of the information sessions last year after your first rejection?

Yes, I attended a lot of the meetings. I found them informative with new details each time. --------------------- become the main speaker for the meetings. One thing I cannot fathom is that there are no individual meetings per applicant to see WHY we were rejected this year.
Last year I met with ----------------------------- and the comments on my application didn't load, so I wasn't even able to see why I was rejected then.
I do not like that there isn't an individual communication at UW. They are changing things too often and it's created an unprofessional mannerism.
I took an offer from one of my accepted schools because they were very inclusive with communication. I had multiple zoom meetings with other schools to share about myself and got to know them.
This morning I got my checklist and I will have everything checked off by this Tuesday before I turn it in. I can't believe UW turned me down.
Cheers to you all, keep up the fight. My heart is with you.
Hi! First off, congratulations to everyone that got accepted and waitlisted. For those that were rejected, please don't think it determines how great you will be as a nurse!
I'm currently on the waitlist and the email says I have to indicate my intention to keep my place by filling out the Intent to Remain on the Waitlist. Was anyone able to find this in their portal? I'm having trouble finding it and I'm freaking out a little bit.

There are two ways to create a special area for your cohort, that are Terms-of-Service approved.
One is to create a facebook page. This link is allowed to be posted and are above.
The other is to create a "Club" within the site, by clicking on the Breakroom link (upper left-hand corner, in the yellow bar) and in the green area, click Start a Breakroom Club.
Any other references or links posted are not TOS-approved, and will be removed.
We wish you success In your Nursing program!

I applied with 0 personal healthcare experience and I think that was the weakness in my application…
I actually currently work as a flight attendant for a major airline and several medical emergencies on board started my deep dive into the role of a nurse. I was fortunate to shadow some flight nurses and loved the combination of aviation and critical care. While I’m waitlisted, I’m going to work on accumulating some clinical experience and try to strengthen my application for the next cycle.
We all want this so bad! Don’t give up. ?
