UW Oshkosh Acclerated Online October Cohort Applicants?

U.S.A. Wisconsin

Published

Anyone out there applying to the UW Oshkosh Online Accelerated program? I applied and am excited to hear if I got in! I'm worried about the expense and intensity, but at 40 years old I don't want to waste any time getting to that BSN, which is my ultimate goal. I live in Wisconsin but 3 hours from Oshkosh so it won't be a quick commute for the on-campus weeks.

Just hoping to connect with other applicants while we cross our fingers and wait!

CHINBLK,

My letter states that those who have been offered admission have until 6/30 to secure their places. Those that don't, those spots will be offered to Waitlisted candidates. So it says that I will be notified after 6/30 about admissions. I wish I knew exactly how much later that was. A week, a month...??? lol.

Blueelle,

Anyone that they deem 'qualified' they put on the waitlist so there is no set number what i was told when i was on the waitlist was that they rarely have to use it with this particular program. I know your planning on going to matc..I would call and set up an appointment with sue if you want to apply again she gave me great advice on my resume and cover letter for my next time applying as well as how to use my 'extra' reference that you get to the best of my advantage. for instance i had used teachers .....but my grades spoke for themself what i needed was a nurse that had seen me work ect....

I think you sound like exactly the kind of student they want from our private email.. and I think talking to sue will help clairfy how to be prepared. i can almost guarentee that with you taking classes this summer played a significant role in their decision.

Hello rn2bnwi,

I know that you are busy with school and I am happy that you were offered a second chance. I applied for the October Cohort and know that everyone has already been accepted. Now it's either am on the waiting list or not accepted at all, I haven't checked the mail yet :) but if I am not accepted can you advise me on what to do differently next time around? What did you do? If I got this far as to get a phone interview then there must be something about me thats right, right? Any input you can offer is greatly appreciated.

My email is [email protected] (if you want to pm)

My best advice is that I called Sue and set up a phone appoinment. She went through my records with me and told me ways that i could improve my resume, and my letter of reference. MY main weakness was already solved by the time i had my meeting which was that i had not completed all of my classes before they were making a final decision. Good luck!

Thank you, My appointment with Sue would have to be over the phone being that I am an out of state applicant.

rn2bn,

This is a really dumb question but what kind of laptop does the program provide and do we get it at orientation or earlier? I am so excited to start and I'm sure I will have 10,000 more questions!

:) I totally get that. I had to pace myself doing the two books required because i was so excited to get started :) The computer we got was a HP and i don't know know all the details but its a higher end because we do second life on it. the pda is an ipod touch 8mb ( and its really awesome they download ALL of the nursing info on them so no need to take bulky drug books with you to clinicals :) We also get headphones and a camera for the computer. We SKYPE each other ALL the time for this program. Im so behind on technology but they walk you through it all at orientation. (which is when we got our computers)

Specializes in Cardiac Step-down Unit.

That sounds wonderful!! Good luck to everyone that got in and to those that are on waiting list!!

Congrats to you guys!! I'm applying to the May 2010 program. I have a couple classes that will complete my required classes by Thanksgiving, so I hope that's soon enough! I do have to take the AP placement test for Human development. Has anyone taken that test online?? And if so, how was it? The developmental class at my college only covers infant, so I'll have to supplement with adult and teen for the test.

Also, how were the email and phone interviews? I read about understanding the program and that kind of info, but does anyone recomend anything else to know??

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it!!!

Good luck! i just got into oshkosh for our boot camp :) The email interview is more about you, and the phone interview is more about the program and if its intensity is going to be a good fit for you. The program is intense but doable! good luck! The one piece of advice i have that i think is fair to share about the interview process ...............is that the online interview is timed. you only have 30 minutes (which they tell you ) so the night before have your friends, parent, dh, ect.... send you a fake interview with 6 to 8 questions and do a practice round. It really helped me. Good luck!

Rn, Good luck at boot camp! Any advice for the 1st three months of classes? We start Sept. 30th. I guess what I'm wondering is how many hours per day do you really have to put in...they have me scared that it will be 12 hrs everyday of the week! I'm so excited to start!

I ended up spending a lot more time studying than i actually thought i would and that has gotten some people down because they are missing summer outings with their families. but my main advice is to always get a day ahead at the beginning of the course if you can... and then its never that stressful because you have built in leeway. :) and i usually need it:) you will do great!
