Hey guys !
I'm applying and I'm really nervous, but excited to start my nursing program soon. Anyone else applying to UW?
I've been analyzing my strengths and weaknesses in order to write about why I picked a certain patient over another and how that person will be affected by my personality, strengths, and weaknesses. I also plan to write how I can improve by learning from the experience with that patient. I'm definitely looking at it as a critical(ly analyzing yourself to the core) thinking exercise!
Also, I just got this message from a friend of a friend who will graduate this year:
The essays are always different but you want to focus on what nursing is which is holistic care and then also address what is important information regarding the patient. In regards to the math it is basic conversion questions such as grams to mg etc...know your metric conversions. Also know ounces to mL. Questions for math will be like 300 mg aspirin is ordered you have 50 mg tablets how many should you give etc....also questions such as rates may be included....I highly recommend looking online for nursing math practice questions....good luck and I wish you well!!!
How did you guys do? I felt that the essay part was pretty easy and math problems were easy too, but I screwed up on the first one. I made it more difficult than it really was. What sucks is that I realized where I went wrong but I ran out of time. It was so easy!!!!! I am so upset .... Oh well... now we wait .. I hope everyone else did great!!
It was something like the medication prescribed was 50mg/kg, pt weighs 25.5 kg. The medication comes in liquid form 100mg/ml. How many ml should be given? After she said pens down I realized I was supposed to divide 50 by 25.5 to get rid of kg, then divide 100 by 2 to get the answer..... This will haunt me forever! How stupid of me...
I chose scenario 3 about the 17 yr old.

shelleybaumer - thanks! I went through all of that this morning, and stumbled across the 2015 page just recently. The posts from the previous year have been extremely helpful. I think having a layout of how you may want to construct your essay will really help as well. I read some people talking about strengths and weaknesses and utilizing that into the essay. Keeping those kinds of things in mind will make the hour seem a little smoother!
