Hey guys !
I'm applying and I'm really nervous, but excited to start my nursing program soon. Anyone else applying to UW?
I finally heard back! It turns out they didn't want me at UW. But, I got accepted into SU so I may meet some of you people during our clinicals.
I'm just thankful that I got to experience the application process with everyone on here. The support, positivity, and advice calmed my nerves during these last several months.
Good luck to everyone who got in! It's only the beginning!
Hey sphenoid CNA,
Is this your second year applying for UWSON? If so, do you mind if I ask what was your profile (GPA, Resume, recommendation letter, experience, proctored essay)last year? And what part did you get improved for this year application ? Do you have any advice for those who will apply next year?
Thanks
Hey guys, I'm wondering if you all have any advice on getting a letter of rec from an RN if you don't work in the medical field? I've only been doing volunteering at a hospital and I hardly work with nurses. I saw the letter of rec form (and wow it's long). I think it says that it should be someone who's watching you for the past 2 years. Are they strict on that? Thanks so much and congrats to all of you. I hope to be in your shoes one day :)
Did everyone in Washington recieve their letter? I called SoN and they had my adress from Texas in their computer. I moved to Redmond after turning my application in.. I called them to update my current adress but I guess it wasn't processed correctly. I can't call Adrian until Monday. I'm so frustrated of my situation, not knowing what my future plans are is killing me!
Hey nat0306,
Hey, I know how hard it can be to get to know an RN at a hospital that you volunteer at. I was once there too. For me, after volunteering, I started to work at a nursing home and thats the place where I found the RN who wrote my letter of rec. Working as a CNA, there were so many more opportunities to get to know the nurses because you have to communicate and work with them a lot. If you can't work as a CNA, I recommend volunteering at a nursing home. My friend who's currently doing that is getting to know the nurses and she likes it a lot better than when she was volunteering at the UW med center.
When you are looking for a nurse who's gonna write your letter of rec, make sure you find someone who cares about your nursing career (that way you he or she is gonna spend quality time on your letter of rec)! And I don't think the length of knowing the nurse really matters because the I became close with my nurse in about 6 months. And make sure when that nurse writes your letter of rec, that it is detailed. when I first applied, my letter of rec was really vague and short, but the second time I applied, my letter of rec was super detailed, around 2 pages.
Congrats kaleaud!!!You have to spill the beans on your "stats" (if you're comfortable of course :) )
Hey Shelleybaumer, I don't mind sharing my stats.
My GPA is 3.2 and I have 1500 hours of healthcare experience, and around 500 hours in leadership experience. Most of my nursing experience came out from working as a CNA at a nursing/rehab home. The place that I worked at was super demanding and very hard (physically and mentally), but it all made me the strong CNA I am today!
When I first applied, my GPA was around 3.0 and I think my healthcare experience was around 900 hours? Before I decided to apply again, I went back and talked to the advisor to find my weak points on my past app. My letter of rec, gpa, and resume were all weak. To raise my GPA, I retook some courses (there were only so many courses that I could have retaken because I retook others before) and I also did very well in my other major's classes.
