UW BSN Fall 2011

U.S.A. Washington

Published

I am planning on applying this year for Fall 2011 BSN at UW, although I doubt I'll be competitive due to my lack of healthcare experience. I'll have a bit over 100 hours by the time the application is due, but in more than one setting. I'm sort of just planning to go through the motions this year so I know what to expect the following year. Also A&P is kicking my butt this quarter so I probably won't end up with an A :( . Anyone else applying?

Well I just finished my essay. I think it went ok, although I spent too long double checking the math portion and could have used another 10 minutes on the essay. Oh well, I hope you all do great tonight. Now to find a way to not go crazy for the next two months!

Wow! Just finished the essay and math quiz. That was intense! The question was good and well thought-out given the competitive entry process, but I was not expecting anything that involved for an hour time limit. And the math.... the only one I finished in full was the first one. Yikes! For the woman in Bellingham, just an FYI: Carolyn Chow said they have over 500 applicants and it was the best applicant pool they had seen in a long time. I think we had around 225 in that lecture hall, not including out of area proctored essays. Good luck everyone!

Thanks for the update! 500 applicants? Wow, I feel much less hopeful now. It's gonna be a long two months.

Yes, she said to congratulate ourselves for making it this far...we'll see. I'm wondering why it went from 400 apps last year to 500. I was the same Kristina, I did the math part first to make sure I finished it so didn't have as long for the essay. Oh well, I feel pretty good about it. Time will tell........

Arghh...has it really only been two days since the proctored essay? For those of you who have been through this waiting process before, how do you handle it? I will be busy with work and A/P 2, then micro and organic chemistry but I have a feeling it is going to be really hard to concentrate on studying. I have spent most of my work day today on this site and also pricing apartments in Seattle (which is pretty scary!)

Hopefully we'll start to get some nicer weather so I can go outside once in a while... I'm hoping that will help!

I would recommend exercise... minimal allnurses.com

it will help time fly by.

Hi all. I've been meaning to post to the site but have to admit I've been a slacker. I was/still am super nervous but glad the proctored essay is over. How do you all think you fared? I chose a patient that I was unfamiliar with how to treat as the others I had experience in dealing with. I feel pretty confident with my essay. Did anyone else apply to Seattle U or SPU? Good luck all :)

I've been meaning to come back to this since the proctored test. I was super impressed with the amount of people there. Everyone I was talking to was really nice. This girl that sat in front of me told me this was her 3rd time. =/ With the 500 applicants I'm not feeling VERY confident but we shall see. I believe I answered the essay well but it was such a complex question for one hour. If I had another I could have blown it out of the ballpark. I am super happy that you guys thought the same... let's play the waiting game!

I think that was also part of the test, because it was such an interesting question and had many ways you could take it and run with it. I believe they wanted to see how focused you could be with the question. Right before we began, the proctor asked us to sit and think about it for a minute and think about what they wanted. One thing I do know is that my hand was so cramped by the end it looked liked someone else finished my essay for me. Nice handwriting to crap.... :(

I know, right? That is probably the most I have written by hand in a very long time! I thought my hand was going to give out on the final draft, haha. Good luck, everyone! It would be fun if we all post if we get in or not on this thred in April!

Hi all,

I also thought the essay question was really good and complex, though I could have used another hour to think it through. I feel I communicated what I needed to I guess. Congrats to eveyone who made it through the first round. We should feel honored. I posted here because I wanted to know if anyone else had trouble with the math part. I'm super stressed about the fact that I only finished one of the three in full, since I forgot how to do dosage conversions, or at least not in 2 minutes or less. Anyone else have that trouble?

Hello all! Well that question was pretty complex. I read through it and thought about it for a sec and then skipped onto the math. I felt that the math was ok. As for the question, I also picked the patient that I felt I had little experience with and went from there. I felt good about my essay when I walked out of the auditorium, but the more I think about it the more nervous I get. I probably could have answered the question a little clearer. I can't stop thinking about the essay so this will also be a long 2 months for me. Good luck everybody!!!!
