UW BSN Fall 2011

U.S.A. Washington

Published

I am planning on applying this year for Fall 2011 BSN at UW, although I doubt I'll be competitive due to my lack of healthcare experience. I'll have a bit over 100 hours by the time the application is due, but in more than one setting. I'm sort of just planning to go through the motions this year so I know what to expect the following year. Also A&P is kicking my butt this quarter so I probably won't end up with an A :( . Anyone else applying?

Hello all. This is the first time I have made a post to this site. I got through to the proctored essay and I am super nervous now. I didn't think I would make it, but I am so happy and grateful. I am trying to think of ways to prepare for the essay, how do you prepare for the unknown? Congrats to all that made it to the essay and good luck!!

Congrats! I'm still in shock that I got this far. This was my first year applying as well, so I don't really know what to expect. I would just take the weekend to reflect on what you learned from your healthcare experiences and why you think you'll make a great nurse. That's what I plan to do anyway.

Sounds like a great plan. Now if I can just stop thinking about it and relax I will ok. Have you applied anywhere else? I think I have 6 school in WA and waiting...

I only applied to UW for this year since I am really not financially ready to quit my job to attend school fulltime yet. Next year I will reapply to UW, apply at my community college here in Bellingham, and also for Seattle U's direct entry masters program. Where else did you apply?

Hi all- I was reading this trend today because.... I applied for FALL 2011 and got my email for the essay yesterday, too! I have to say I am excited that I am not the only older student (even though we aren't old just older; I'm 26) I'm not too convinced I will get past this point though. My grades are not 4.0, but I have extensive health care experience so I think that's what made up for my grades (3.3). Kristina111 did you ever tell if the information session that was recorded was for this year? They say in it there are 2 parts with one being a word math problem.

Welcome and Congrats!

I am pretty positive that the info session is the same one that was up for Fall 2010 students, but I'd bet that we will still have to answer a math problem or two along with writing the essay. I've heard it's easy stuff, but I'm still pretty worried about it since I tend to make stupid mistakes when I'm nervous!

Yea, I'm banking on the fact that it's easy. I haven't taken dosages and calculations yet so I don't know. What happens if you get admitted? I know you said you are only applying there this year since you aren't ready to go full time, but I imagine if you are accepted it would be hard to turn down?

My friends have been asking me that all day! It would be incredibly hard to turn down, but I am recently divorced and still trying to recover from that financially (making two car payments etc) and I already have a Bachelors degree in another field so the aid I would qualify for would be very limited. I make decent money now but have a lot of debt to pay off so I would be very nervous about leaving this job anytime soon, especially with the new grad job market being what it is. I am going to start looking for scholarships and things...maybe I'll finally have some good luck- get accepted and win the lottery! :p

I'm sorry to hear about that! Two car payments, ugh! I will keep my fingers crossed for you to win the lottery!

Ok I'm officially freaking out. I had planned all along to write the essay here in Bellingham tomorrow during the day since I have a test in A/P 2 tomorrow night. I listed the name of a work supervisor on the application who could proctor it for me. Then I found this on the admissions blog...

If you have received an invitation to write the proctored essay and live outside Washington state, the name of the proctor you provided on your application will be e-mailed the essay information.

I live in state and am now worried that they will expect me to be there in person because of that. Anyone from in state been able to write the essay offsite?

BUT... the application says out of area and it would be unreasonable to come to the UW. Not sure what out of area means to them though. If they didn't say anything in the email I wouldn't worry about it. Has your proctor recieved the materials?

I finally heard back from UW and my proctor just received the materials for me for tomorrow, so I was freaking out for nothing. Whew...It's so funny how much of an emotional rollercoaster this whole process has been.
