Uw & Wsu Bsn Applicants 2009

U.S.A. Washington

Published

Hello,

I am a long time reader of the boards. I am applying to both UW and WSU (yakima campus) BSN program and am trying get feedback from past applicants on competitiveness of the matriculation process - tips on interviews or any other general information.

I look forward to your feedback!

~thanks.

I remember the info session podcast said they usually do give out some slots without making them write the essay, but last night she said we were competing for 96 slots... maybe I'm being naive, but I figured that if some of those slots had been filled already, she'd have said that... that we were competing for 60 something slots...

I dunno... I just hope that I'm among those selected... *sigh*

Heh, that's true, she didn't say anything about some spaces already being filled. If that's true, that would be very cool... heh, I think that thought is comforting, and regardless of it's accuracy, I might just go with you on that one (since we'll probably never really know, and it makes me happy to think I have a 50/50 chance!) ;)

I know the feeling of hoping you're selected! I'm sure everyone who went through the hassle of applying feels the same. Best of luck to you, and let us know when you find out.

What did you all think of the essay? How do you think you did? I'm glad it's over with! There was a lot to consider... :uhoh3:

twinkletoes12,

well said - a lot to consider! I left feeling very happy to have done the essay... very excited to have completed it... and really excited to hear the results! I was surprised at how many people were present - but that is to be expected ;)

I look forward to hearing other peoples thoughts on the essay and such... their feedback, thoughts, etc ;)

Does anybody remember the essay question? I am applying next year and would like to have an example question in my head to contemplate :)

mlr, I recommend to just continue knowing why 'you' want to be a nurse, what qualities you can bring to the table and trying to obtain patient contact experiences from now until then.

Thanks 2bcurious. That probably sounded like I was trying to cheat or whatever. I didn't mean for it to sound like that, I just wanted to be able to figure out what kind of answer I would give. I know it was like to rank the order of people you would admit or whatever I was just interested to know what the 5 people had going on, because I wanted to know if I would be able to come up with a rational answer for it.

Maybe if I got in to Seattle U nursing (should hear back any day now) you can tell me when it's not a matter of me having an advantage for next year?

mlr, yeah it's true. Just think of questions pertaining to ethics, your experiences with different populations, life experience, your personal challenges, stuff like that. The question is changed every year so there is no way of knowing what you will get next year. And if you have it proctored for you because you live out of the area they may give you a different question entirely so you can't compare with other people. Don't worry about it. When your turn comes around just take a deep breath, clear your head, and start a quick outline, gather your thoughts and then go for it! The purpose is to judge not only your grammar, writing, etc. but also can you think quickly, and concisely? Gather your thoughts in an organized manner? Remember, it's on the spot and handwritten, one hour, and two pages max. You'll be so relieved when it's over. :chuckle

I'm really surprised at the small amount of UW interest on this forum.... it is quite low - especially since there is much more activity on threads at shoreline, tacoma cc.. etc ;) How come not more UW interest?

bumping this up. so the applicants to the graduate programs will know by months end... will we bsn applicants know by then too?? I noticed there wasn't a peep about bsn applications on the latest UW update! :p

All of the paperwork says the week of April 20th is when decisions are sent out. I'm anxiously waiting! :uhoh3:

Well.. the initial paperwork did say that.. BUT if you look at last years paperwork it said mid-April but on this forum people did gain their notification beginning 30 March... also I thought one set of paperwork said 20 April and elsewhere it said 15 April.. either way I'm waiting as patiently as I can muster.

It is somewhat a relief to know there are others in the same boat as I seldom see any posts for UW, although I know it is of interest to many judging on the turn out at our essay ;)

Anyone have any new developments, thoughts, etc on their UW journey?

best of luck, look forward to hearing from you.
