UVA CNL 2017

Published

Hi everyone!

I wanted to start a thread because I didn't see one yet for the UVA CNL 2017 applicants. Anyone else out there? I just submitted my application and am applying to a few other direct entry MSN programs. Let me know how the rest of you are doing!

Thank you so much, katieike0805! Congratulations to you as well on your interview- I'm sure you'll knock it out of the park!

I did hear back from admissions and the office said that the e-mails should be going out next week or so!

I am shocked by how late they are interviewing this year! I already knew I was accepted by this point! Best of luck to all the people interviewing!!

Congrats to everyone who got an interview! Best of luck on those; I'm sure they are meant to be a "get to know you" sort of thing, and to make sure your views and goals align with those of the program. I don't know any specifics on numbers. However, last year I tried to do some calculations on the interview-to-acceptance ratio, and I got to something like, they interview half of the applicant pool, then accept half of that. Don't take my word on that though. The analyses I did were very rough ;) Seriously, it is usually a toss up depending on what kind of applicants they get.

There were 50 people in the 2018 cohort this past May; the largest cohort yet.

Hi ladies, I wish you all good luck during your interviews!!!!

i plan to apply for this program this year. So I would love to hear your thoughts on the program cost and typical schedule if it is possible.... I live in Arlington, VA and have a kid who has to start kindergarten in 2018, so I'm anxious if I have to temporarily relocate us or just myself... I heard some people just drive for 2 hrs one way....

Thank you in advance!

Don't forget the guys who have interviews too. ;)

As far as commuting, it's doable, but would be pretty tough from two hours away, especially in the summer. (I graduate this semester and have commuted the whole time. My drive plus walk from where I park is about an hour each way.)

In the fall and spring, classes are only on Thursdays and Fridays, but you'll also have clinicals one or two days a week (and sometimes even three days a week, but mostly just during your final semester of the program). Some people are able to secure clinical sites that are close to where they live back home, but that's not always guaranteed. During the summer, classes are usually five days a week for a while, so that commute would probably be pretty rough.

As for costs: Have you seen this page? https://www.nursing.virginia.edu/media/Tuition_Fees_MSN-2016-17.pdf Make sure to factor in summer tuition too. (It kind of gets lost in that sheet if you're not looking for it.)

Hope that helps.

Hey, I was sure I am missing guys in the thread :) sorry!

yeah, I saw the price list but I indeed didn't include summer courses in. I honestly just started my search as my choice #1 was GMU with their Accelerated BSN. However, MSN is more attractive now and it's not very widely offered program. So I'd better appreciate it's just 2 hrs away and I'm Virginian!

We have at least two, if not, three people in our current class (2018) that commute from Richmond, VA to UVA. While doable, you have to account that it will eat up valuable time to study, do homework, and such because you are commuting back and forward for those two days during the Fall and Spring. (Don't forget the "rush hour" traffic to leave Cville and get into NOVA (and vice versa) during these times might make the commute longer than 2hrs).

Also, as 21277 stated, during the summer, it can be pretty exhausting. You may have to commute up to five days a week. For example-- L&D (the second half of 1st Summer) was five days in a row for two weeks straight before we eased into clinicals. So, a summer sublet might be in order.

Lastly, by commuting, you lose the opportunity to bond and hang out with your cohort depending how engaging you are in class, over Facebook, and such.

Where do most people live that's in the cohort? I went to UVA undergrad so Im familiar with some of the housing there.

Adding on to the question about cost: One really nice thing that is available that has helped some folks out quite a bit are the Conway scholarships. For my class, I think there were just a few people who got them (not really sure how many out of the 32 total in the class), but the program expanded how many scholarships were available for the first-year class this year, and then they just announced that there will be even more scholarships available going forward for the next few years. I don't know tons of details about the criteria they use to select the recipients (I wasn't fortunate enough to receive one), but it's a wonderful opportunity for those who get one.

There isn't generally one specific place that everyone lives. This year, there are people on West Main, near the corner, Madison Ave, in the Belmont area, downtown, on grounds, etc. It depends on lots of different factors, such as, whether you'd like to be within walking distance, cost, amenities, and the like.

Hello!

Did anyone have their interview today? If so, did they have a tour of the nursing school or any sort of event planned after the interview?

Hi all!

I am a bit late to the party but had my interview this weekend as well! Anxiously waiting for the next 2-3 weeks to go by, apparently we will know by Feb. 15th?

I had my interview this past weekend as well. Good luck to everyone!
