UTMB Summer 2018

Published

I just wanted to start a group for those applying to UTMB nursing summer 2018 start! I didn't see a thread and figured there was some of us who could use one!

I have already taken my teas and will be submitting my application soon! This would be a great place for us to compare timelines and answer any questions I'm sure we all have! I look forward to hearing from other applicants.

Good morning all! I'm joining into this conversation a little late but I'm here now. So I'll start by beginning with the fact that I originally applied for Fall 2017 and didn't hear back about anything (denied, waitlisted, interview) for so long. Months and months. Eventually in about mid-May I got an email with the subject "Fall 2017 Waitlist Interview". The very first line of the email read "We are pleased to announce that you have been selected to interview for admission to the BSN Traditional Program for Fall 2017." Directly copied from the email. Anyways by reading that I personally got from it that I had already been on the waitlist and that I am now being taken off and being considered for a spot. Anyways I scheduled my interview for the closest date and was on my way. So I show up to the interview and right before your interviewer comes to meet you someone from the admissions office comes in to answer your questions. So we were talking and SHE TELLS ME THIS IS AN INTERVIEW TO BE ON THE WAITLIST. So I'm like "okay I'll just go home and apply for the spring as soon as possible". Keep in my mind I had not applied and was planning to until I received this email. She then says "well if you want to be considered you'll need to apply for Summer 2018. I asked why and she said "because the deadline for Spring 2018 was May 31st". GUESS WHAT! The date was June 1st :-) :-) :-) yeah just wonderful! Anyways I'm so sad at this point. I'm literally helpless. Also sidetone I also dug into the lady before about the waitlist and she said there are approximately 30 people on it per semester just FYI. So I have my interview and it goes wonderful, the interviewer and I connected so well and I felt amazing leaving. I get home and within the same week I find out I am placed on the waitlist. Of course I'm happy and I wait all summer holding onto what little hope I have that maybe, just maybe I'll get accepted for the fall. I applied for summer as soon as it opened and I'm just praying I will get accepted for the fall. I really wanted to start in the fall at this point because waiting until next summer (and not being in school) made me feel so sad and behind. Soooo now we're in the current day and I didn't make it off the waitlist. I'm now waiting for summer admissions (I don't need to interview because once you have one it's there forever unless you want to interview again) and praying so much that I'm offered a spot for the spring instead (they do this. It happened last spring and summer cycle. When they don't have enough spots/people they want they'll offer them to start a semester before if possible). While this is not a written rule, it has happened. And for the cherry on top, knowing that I was on the waitlist for the most competitive semester I would have easily made it in for the spring. Two of my friends with similar/even lower stats made it in for the spring and one of them forsure was on the waitlist for the fall with a significantly lower GPA.

SO, my overall takeaways are please, please, please apply for the next semester no matter your circumstances (especially if waitlisted). Also it's nice to know that they consider things other than just your GPA and test scores and that they really do take the time to read your personal statements. Also if you guys have questions about anything I'll try to answer to the best of my ability and sorry for the long essay I just want to be able to educate you guys on the process because a lot of the time you'll feel in the dark and it really does suck and what sucks even more is the I'll probably have to wait an additional 1-2 weeks to hear back on top of what Ms. Botello told me was about 2 more weeks until they started on the summer apps. Of course I can't complain and my heart deeply aches for those impacted by Harvey. I'll wait as long as I need because well, that's all I've been doing for months :)

Thanks for your words of encouragement and this was such a funny post to read! I applied to spring 2018 but I feel like I'm not competitive so I applied to summer 2018 too... do you mind posting your stats?

They haven't started on the summer apps at all?

When I emailed Ms. Botello a little over two weeks she said they wouldn't be starting until about two weeks so maybe they'll start Tuesday or they'll be a little behind due to the hurricane!

Any idea when emails for interviews will start being sent out?

I'm wondering about the interviews as well! Does anyone know if they will be emailed to us or will it post on our mystar account?

You will receive an email inviting you to be interviewed but I'm not sure when that will start!

From my understanding, they are still in working on Spring 2018 applicants. They haven't started waitlisting, yet. I have a feeling that Harvey set them back a couple of weeks at least. My guess is it will be 4 weeks or so before they contact Summer 2108 applicants.

I called the other day asking if summer apps were already being reviewed and the gentleman on the phone said yes, so hang in there guys!

I emailed the other day and I was told that you should hear something within 12 weeks of the application deadline.

Anyone else getting extremely nervous

Oh most definitely nervous. You are not alone!

I check this page at LEAST 20 times a day just to see if there is any new information!! Anybody have even a slight idea when acceptances will begin going out?
