UTMB Summer 2018

Published

I just wanted to start a group for those applying to UTMB nursing summer 2018 start! I didn't see a thread and figured there was some of us who could use one!

I have already taken my teas and will be submitting my application soon! This would be a great place for us to compare timelines and answer any questions I'm sure we all have! I look forward to hearing from other applicants.

Hi so I just had my interview today and am going to drop my account of it here in case anyone who has yet to interview is curious. Some of the questions were: "What do you think stands out the most in your personal statement?" "What are your study strategies?" "Who is your academic support system?" "Say you go into an exam feeling confident, but then get a C, what would you do?" "You're in clincals working with a team of people. You notice someone on your team is doing something that is not the best for the patient, what do you do?" "Recall an instance when you had to put someone's emotional/physical needs above your own." The rest of the questions fall under the whole "why nursing?" or personal anecdote spiel. The interviewer I had was really friendly and made a point to laugh and crack a few jokes. She liked inserting her own stories in questions as well. We even had some off topic conversations ranging from black friday shopping to puberty talks with little kids in our families. It felt more like I was partaking in a little coffee chat than an interview. I'd say it went well, but when she walked away after dropping off at the elevator her facial expression made a complete 180. I kid you not she went from a huge smile to the straightest straight face ever so I am not sure if that was reflective of the interview or something in her life. Anyway, that's how it went for me. Good luck to everyone else!

Hey sweetie!!!

I was pulled right after you lol. The faculty member that did my interview was actually Jolly Daniels, the BSN advisor. The first thing she said to me was that she normally doesn't do interviews so it kinda threw me off. She was very nice and asked all the same questions. It seemed like they were sort of repetitive. The only thing that I would say was weird is she said the school doesn't encourage people to work while they go to school. When she asked me the question about if I worked or not and if it all became stressful what's i do, it kind of seemed like she wanted me to say I'd quit my job. I ended up reassuring her that I'm flexible and I prioritize my schooling. She was very adamant about asking if I had any questions. It was to a point where I questioned wether or not I was supposed to ask something specific. Other than those things it was awesome and I'm truly excited. UTMB seems so friendly. With all the resources they offer you can really tell that the staff genuinely cares about their students. Good luck everyone!

Ohh, parking is confusing. Search maps for parking garage 4 and it's all the way at the end to the left í ½í¸Š

Hey Gabby!

I had Kaci Woods-Chinn, the nursing academic counselor. The questions I had were also really similar, like she ended up saying "you've already mentioned this but " maybe four times. Ooo cannot stress that whole question about what one would do if one's schedule got tight enough. My interviewer also put quite a bit of emphasis on it too, so I ended up just saying versatility is my strong suit but I would not sacrifice my academics regardless yada yada. She kept asking me if I had anymore questions also! She'd do this little head tilt and raise her pen at the same time, so I feel she was definitely pushing me to ask something or maybe waiting to gauge my questions. My take away from that interview is that there are some really friendly faculty there. Also to those that haven't been interviewed yet, prepare some good questions! Good luck!

There are quite a few roads closed, at least today there were, so make sure you get there early so you have time to hunt for the parking garage lol.

I received the same email. My interview is tomorrow so I don't think it has anything to do with it.

They have interviews on Saturday?

They have interviews on Saturday?

Nevermind, the time stamp seems to be off.

I noticed that lol. I don't like it.

So I had my interview on 10/30 and up until right now, my mystar has said "application complete" and now it says "You must complete this prerequisite and Core Curriculum requirement prior to enrollment." Does it show that on anyone else? I'm taking my last two prerequisites right now so I understand why it's saying that but I just want to know of if that has anything to do with my admission status or if anyone else has seen any change.

I'm in the same boat! Interviewed on 10/30 and my prerequisite from my summer 2 session just showed up. (I guess they didn't get my last transcript)

As I've seen in other threads this is usually a good sign :)

Yesterday, during my interview, I was told that admissions accept or reject in batches every two weeks. So they could be going through the interviews for the last couple of waves sent out. Also, they mentioned that only 90 people will get in for our semester.

I have obviously already turned in my application and taken the teas, but I ended up taking the teas this morning and did slightly better than my first attempt. Does anyone know if we they will take my new scores if I send them over? I have heard mixed things about it and was just curious.

Do you by any chance know how many applied?
