Hi future nurses! I didn't see a discussion board for the summer term of 2017, so I decided to make one myself(: Let's use this forum to discuss grades, TEAS, and the application process. This does include venting! We all know how anxiety kicks in when there's a bump in the road. Good luck to everyone that is applying!
I can't wait for the application period opens. Anyone that is re-applying, any tips?
I had my intervew yesterday. It went very well but my TEAS scores I'm afraid are just a little too low. I took it only once and kind of zipped through it thinking I was doing great, but my composite score was 78. Hopefully I can retake it and send new results ASAP, planning to call Ms. Botello on Tuesday to see if that would be possible. My GPA is like 3.4 so that's okay. They liked my personal statement as well. If that stupid TEAS test hold me back, lol... ugh.. I worked hard to get this far for that one bombed test to ruin it. I really hope they will accept a second try on it this late in the game.
Its not exactly the same, but when I emailed her last month to ask about sending them fall transcripts and submitting my proof of graduation, she said that they do not allow files to be updated once they begin considerations.
However, in previous terms I saw that if they really liked someone and everything else was highly competitive then some times they will ask you to retake it
I made it personal. I talked about my experience with dealing with family members' illnesses (prescription drug abuse for example), I talked about how those experiences lead me to nursing. I talked a lot about what it is I admire about nurses and the skills I would like the acquire at UTMB.
I think one important thing is, they want to know you are choosing nursing for your whole life and that it is your passion. I think they also want to know that you have a good support system at home, people rooting for you and that will help you achieve your goals.
I have seen that in previous threads as well but was also told the same when I called before. This time I spoke to someone in person at UTMB and she told me to call Ms. Botello on Tuesday to see if she would allow it, so crossing my fingers.
I completed it last time in just under an hour. In hindsight maybe I should have spent more time. I definitely plan to use all my time next time.
The lady who interviewed me said basically that they "were just going back over all the applications". Honestly, I felt like I was being interviewed for the waitlist after she said that.
When was your interview and when was the last day to schedule an interview? What did it say the last day was on your invitation email?
Does anyone know exactly how UTMB views your overall GPA? I have heard so many conflicting things! Do they just go straight by what NursingCAS shows or do they calculate it themselves also? If so, if you've retaken a course do they take the higher grade? Just trying to go ahead and prepare myself for what I can improve before next application date!
Nursing CAS calculates it for them. You can view your entire application with the GPA as they calculate it on the nursing CAS site. For the prerequisite GPA they take the higher one. I'm not sure for cumulative. I feel like they take the highest one there too only because mine was a little higher then I had calculated

If you don't mind sharing, what kinds of things did you put / share in your personal statement? I think mine is good but I may tweak it some if I don't get an interview this time around!
