UTMB Summer '09 Applicants

Published

I'm wondering who applied for the UTMB Summer 2009 semester, and if they have received any news from UTMB. My status says "pending", and all my information was received. I don't know how big the applicant pool is considering the hurricane. I haven't seen any news on here about UTMB recently, so anything is appreciated. Thanks.

I must also add that now I am very worried about not getting accepted for Summer. I really hope that this Patho class isn't going to kill my chances. Also, my GPA is not all that great. My Science GPA is a bit higher, but still. I'm so worried. Please keep everyone posted if anyone hears anything. :scrying:

I got an e-mail today saying that orientation for Saturday Jan. 10 is cancelled. I had planned to go to orientation on Dec. 6, but it was rescheduled to sat Jan. 10. Technically, this is the 2nd time this has happened. They said that the school needs more repair work, and they apologized. She said if we wanted, we could set up an appointment. Also, they said they increased enrollment for the Spring, and they plan to increase it for the fall. (not sure about the summer, but I've also applied for fall.) She said that they are encouraging students to submit applications.

Anybody going to keep their day job while going through this program?

Not for the first semester, at least. It will be tough, but my husband is able to support both of us. Thank goodness. If I think I can handle something part-time after the first semester, then I will try to get a job as a nurse tech or something. Something is better than nothing.

They only have one "testimonial" on their website, where a guy says that he treats the program like a full-time job. And I can certainly see that, with the coursework being as difficult as it is.

I'd actually like to hear something from people who hold a job and also do the program.

However, those of us with day jobs right now find it very difficult to cut off the money in the current economic climate.

tejas-nurse,

Are you a current student in the program? Were you enrolled for summer admission? If so, how do you like the program? Is it more difficult due to the aftermath of the hurricane?

No, I'm not a student there. Perhaps I phrased that last post poorly. I meant that I wanted to hear from students who are in the UT SON program and also work part- or full-time.

I am impatiently waiting to hear from UTMB regarding the Summer Admissions. I am not sure what you are talking about regarding orientation. Is it something that you can just sign up for? Or must you be a student? Also, I see more people have been adding comments, have you guys heard anything from the school?

I have also applied for Fall 2009 at UTMB SON along with some other schools such as PVAMU.

The orientation I'm talking about is for prospective students who are considering to apply. They go over the application process, and answer questions. It gives students a glimpse of what they might be getting into. It has nothing to do with being admitted, just an overview of the application process. I signed up for it on the website. It's good to apply to several schools. I'm going to keep trying.

So far, I haven't heard anything about interviews or acceptance. It will proabably be late Jan. or early Feb. before we start hearing anything. Good time to brush up on interview skills....

i have a question, i understand that utmb is requiring pathophysiology. i was planning on taking that in the summer, would that be allowed? as long as i have all my classes done by fall right? i applied for the fall 2009.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!

yeah, i think if you are applying for fall, then you can take patho in the summer and it shouldnt be an issue. good luck to you too!

Hey guys. I have applied to UTMB for Summer 2009 and still waiting to hear something. I took Pathophysiology but I was out of the country for four weeks during the course and ended up making a D so I'm taking it again starting January 2009. I was told my UTMB it wouldn't be a problem to overlap IF I get accepted. I would love to keep my day job but I don't get off until 4:00 so that might be difficult. I am going to apply to HCC ADN evening program because I was told if I finish that program I would only be about one semester away from my BSN which I can do online. That way I can keep my day job, go to nursing school in the evenings and do clinicals on the weekends. It would be nice to get it all done in 15 months but I just can't quit a good paying job when everyone else is in the umemployment line and can't pay bills. Good luck everyone.
