I'm wondering who applied for the UTMB Summer 2009 semester, and if they have received any news from UTMB. My status says "pending", and all my information was received. I don't know how big the applicant pool is considering the hurricane. I haven't seen any news on here about UTMB recently, so anything is appreciated. Thanks.
I got my rejection from UTHSC today too
I never interviewed with them, and they don't require a personal statement. They also require the NET (which even though it is fairly easy, I managed to do bad on the reading...). I think my chances with UTMB are better because there were only about 300 applicants for the UTMB summer program (partly because of the new pathophysiology requirement, and because the summer program is brand new. A lot of people didn't know about it). I heard UTHSC had somewhere around 1000 applicants.
I like the fact that UTMB requires a personal statement because it gives you a chance to explain particular situations that have impacted your academics. Plus I would rather be in the UTMB program because it is 15 months (and starts sooner), and UTHSC is the regular 2 years. Even if my friend gets into UTHSC, I will still be an RN sooner than him!! haha
I cannot move into a dorm because I am married...lol, and my husband works in downtown Houston. I heard that the students who moved into the dorms for the fall '08 semester lost everythin in IKE (of course, i don't think there will be another hurricane for a while, but you never know). When I was interviewing, I was told that about 3/4 of the students lived in dorms. That is just what I was told...(or how I remember it). You can select to do clinicals on the island or off the island, but it is harder to get them on the island (because a lot of students live on the island...and there are not as many hospitals?? i guess).
I think living in the dorms would be very convenient.
I have another question. The school I got accepted to is offering some Summer courses, but I am not sure when they start. If I get into UTMB for Summer, all should be well. However, if I get in for Fall, I wouldn't want to waste my time and money taking the summer courses and not getting credit for them at UTMB. What should I do?
I was also planning on taking some summer courses to improve my GPA for UTMB. There is no way I can take classes to improve my GPA for UTMB at Lone Star and attend that Nursing School.
Any advices please....?
Not sure what you should do lucky. My plan is almost same. I plan on taking 2 community college nursing classes during summer terms in Galveston if I do not get into UT SON for summer. Then if I get in for fall at UT son I guess they will be a waste but any extra nursing training I think will help in school at UT son anyway. If I dont get into UT Son at all then I will be ahead of the game for fall at GCC nursing school. Thats my plan, I know it sucks but we have to play the game that these schools seem to want us to.
not yet, but I keep checking my email like a crazy person....even though I know they are closed and I won't hear anything at least until tomorrow. I was also checking to see if anyone on hear heard anything, but I'm sure they will let us know. I will post if I hear something! Good luck to ya!

You can always accept the one you got in and then later if you get in at UT SON tell the other one you changed your mind and wont be attending. This happens all the itme. It is what I am doing.
