UTMB Spring 2012

Published

Hey Guys!

I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread for all UTMB Galveston's Spring 2012 traditional bsn applicants. Have you all started to apply yet or at least looked at the application? What do you think? How are your personal statements/testing going? If you guys have anything worth discussing please post and good luck to all!

I actually borrowed the practice book from a friend of mine, but I had to give it back since she needs it for her teas now. I would highly recommend for you to get it and also if you can, try to buy the online practice exams..they are also a good help.

At Rocket Rider:

What will you be doing during the fall 2011 semester since you will have all your classes done by the end of summer? Do we have to have classes done by the summer for Spring 2012?

No I am pretty sure you will only need the credits completed my January 2012, so you have plenty of time. My scenario is a bit different.

Long story short, this fall I will either have get a part ime job to cover some UTMB costs, if accepted, or will be in an ADN program at San Jac or COM. Now for the long part....

UTMB is my first choice. I have all the credits I need to go straight for my BSN so obviously I want to. My next choice is San Jac's ADN program. Then thirdly COM (College of the Mainland) ADN program. All 3 of which will put me out in May 2013. I would prefer the BSN since I eventually want a MSN, but will take the ADN. An ADN will be only about 10 hours a semester for me instead of 14-16 through utmb. So ultimately it will work either way.

I will find out from COM around the end of June as to whether or not I am in that one, then from San Jac, around mid July. I will not know from UTMB until beginning to mid august if I even get an interview, and won't know if accepted beyond there until end of August if not later! I will accept them as they come in (HOPEFUL THINKING OF COURSE) just so that I am sure I will get into something either in the fall or spring. You see, I may even have to start San jACs course before I even know as to whether or not I am into utmb so its best I get them out of the way this summer then to have to fool with anything in the fall. Especially if I am going to have to start an ADN program in August. I think San Jacs start date is August 29th so it would be cutting it close.

Hope that all makes sense!

I took the TEAS and scored 90%. I am retaking it in May. I noticed on the UTMB website that beginning Spring 2012 the pre-req and science GPA are no longer figured separately and an overall gpa is used. Did anyone else read that? If so, what kind of overall gpa do some of you have? Mine is a 3.44. I have not taken A&P II or Micro.

I too read that the overall gpa is the only one to be calcuated this semester. I'm not too happy about it since I am standing at a whopping 2.89! BUt in a couple weeks when I finish Micro and Ana2, it should come up to AT LEAST a 3.0 since I have a 97 in Ana2 and a 101 in Micro right now. Those should give it enough oomph to get over that 3.0 edge. I am REALLY counting on my supporting statement and my TEAS scores.

Does anyone know if there is a limit as to how many times a person can attempt the TEAS V?

Hi im applying as well. From my understanding it can only be taken once a year.

Hey guys! I still haven't applied for the Spring semester, because I'm taking the TEAS test on the 19th of May. So I'm waiting to apply, hopefully I will do good on the test! I will still continue to go to San Jac in the summer & fall to get all my pre reqs done. Does anyone know how many people get accepted a semester, because I am a little scared because I am waiting so long to apply. And also, just to clarify, we don't need 3 letters of reference? I'm a little freaked out, becuase if that is the case, I need to get on the ball. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! :)

I'm scared too because I am not taking the TEAS until May 20. I was worried about the same thing. I feel like I'm waiting til the last minute and I hate that! I'll be finishing up a few prereqs in the summer as well. I'm too busy studying for finals so I can't really start studying for the TEAS until finals are over :/ I hope I do well on the TEAS but I feel like I might have a little wiggle room since my GPA is pretty high. I still want to do the best I can though. I'm so nervous!

I just got some answers... from Dora at UTMB:o

The TEAS exam can be taken as many times as you would like, but the results are sent to them each time you take it.

Recommendation letters are not required, but can be submitted.

A 75-80 % composite score on TEAS is considered "competitive" and an average overall GPA of 3.4....

I am scheduled to test on May 24th....Which gives me plenty of down time to prepare. I am aiming for a great score to help bump my GPA....

What San Jac campus are you at? I am at south and am taking AP2 this summer. I don't think we need 3 letters of refrence. My understanding is that is for the Master's program. I am taking the TEAS test on the 19th of May as well! Mine is at the West Houston Testing Center.

I go to the Central campus! And I'm also taking the TEAS test at that same location! :) But I actually decided I'm not applying to UTMB for the Spring semester, I'm going to wait and get my GPA up, because right now it's not that great, and after reading the statistics on getting in and stuff like that, I decided I'm just going to wait. Have you started to study the TEAS test yet?

Hello everyone! I just got waitlisted number 10 for ACC, so I am now proceeding with my UTMB application. I only need five more classes for the required 60 credits anyways. Anyone take the TEAS yet and have any advice? I am getting the study guide and I have my test June 1. Good luck everyone!

Hello everyone!!!

First question: Do we have to take the TEAS V in Houston or can we take it at any Pearson Vue location.

Second: Do your chances of getting in to the program decrease the longer you wait?
