Aggggghhhh! Grr! AGAIN *kicks wall* I went and checked my mail and pulled out a yellow packet... TO MY HUSBAND. His stupid Windows 7 upgrade showed up in a yellow packet. This is seriously NOT funny anymore. I feel like my mailbox is taunting me. However, assuming this is fate telling me that this isn't the path for me, I have a backup plan. I will continue to take my science prerequisites, then use academic fresh start in 2013 to try to get into medical school.

ms_sealy I am with you on the not letting people have a chance just because they have children. Did you mention it in your supporting statement? I believe I did and now I am worried that they may not give me a chance because of it. If that is the case then maybe that is not the place for me. Children are a blessing and should not be looked upon as a PROBLEM. I forgot about people discriminating aginst women with kids until now. :sniff:

Toasterbell- I have the same exact plan as you for a backup. I am not going to spend too much time trying to get into nursing school. I may try next semester and if I haven't been acccepted by next year, I will just prepare for med school. Seems alot easier to get into medical school than nursing these days.

Well you guys mine is Nurse practitioner, luckily after I finish PVAMU they have the program for me to continue into for another year. WHOOO HOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jade I did hear that TWU is the school for people with family. I met a few nursing students tht were there and they told me that the professors were very good and helpful when you have a family. They just required more prereq's than I had.

When I was in my interview, we spent a LONG time talking about my children. My interview lasted almost an hour, and the main topic was my kiddoes. The woman who interviewed me was very concerned, NOT that I wouldn't be able to keep up with my schoolwork, but that I would be neglecting my children for school. She told me that she believes that children are the most important thing of all and that nothing should stand in the way of being a good parent. I came out of there believing that if I am discriminated against because of my kids, it's only for the best possible reasons. That's why I want to go there so badly. Our kids ARE our biggest priority, and I think they know that.

i noticed their "concerns" about students with young children during the info sessions. i thought i was being overly sensitive about it, until today. i'm shocked they spent so much time talking about your kids in the interview. but i guess from their past experiences, they must give fair warning because nursing school is a harsh mistress for 15 months.

in my supporting statement, i did mention that my youngest child was 21 years old. i was concerned they would think i was too old, but because they went on and on about nursing school being so hard when you have young children...i thought, it was important they know i was free.

i am still sensitive about my kids and remember the subtle discriminations i suffered while raising them. it bothers me that they are being all preachy and not giving some people a chance because of having a family. you guys are young, ambitious, and motivated and it's only 15 months out of your life, which in turn will makes the lives of your children so much better in the future. my biggest regret is not going to nursing school while i was in my twenties. don’t you guys make the same mistake. do not let them discourage you.

Medical school isn't a bad back up plan at all. I've also considered PA school. I've been working in Pharmacy for 5 years though....but I can't want to spend 4 more years in school!!!!!!! I so wish when I knew what I wanted to do when I first started school instead of waiting till I was done with a bachelors degree to go and get ANOTHER! HAHA! I feel like I"m going to be a permanent student!

A side note, prayers, love, and hugs for all the families, victims, and friends of those involved in the Ft. Hood incident. God Bless them.

If I add up all the time I've been in college, either part time or full time, I'm already at 11 years! But, I LOVE school, so I have enjoyed almost every bit of it. I've looked at PA school, but it seems like the requirements are just as hard to get in, yet you don't actually become an MD, so you don't have quite as many areas in which you can work. What do you think?

Yes, I sure hope that all the rest of the wounded pull through. 13 is enough :-(.
