UTMB Spring 2010

Published

Hey guys Im making this thread so all of the applicants for UTMB Spring 2010 can follow each other through the process and help each other out! The application deadline is coming up soon! Goodluck to all!:nuke: I know they are only exepting 60 for the spring.

OK I have never in my life heard of not being allowed to re-take a class. I dont believe that for one second. People do it all the time. Who told you this and what prompted you to ask? Was something wrong with your e-connect info and thats what made you call? Please clarify this is freaking me out. I re-took CHEM and Psyc 2314.

Also for the others that asked I have a 3.7 GPA with a 4.0 Science. I have been a Surgical technologist since 2001 and I currently am the president of a of a psychological services company. I am pursuing nursing because it is my passion more so than the money. I also applied to UT- Houston

caseytate412 - i have some background medical experience as a cna for two years i worked in the hospitals in med/surg, geriatrics, post partum, rehab, and home health care. i also work the front and back office for a chiropractor doing massage therapy and medical coding and billing. i applied to the basic bsn program and i am really hoping to hear something soon.

has anyone else ever heard of this no retaking class business?

Emag- PV wont allow you to retake more than two prereqs but I have not heard anything about UTMB not allowing it. Yes, it is possible! I want to say that Texas Womens is also doing this but I am not sure. I will have to look into it. The requirements change too often so you have to keep up with them after every acceptance term.

c. Courses classified as support and the natural science courses may not be repeated more than once to achieve a passing grade of "C". Also, no more than two (2) of the above group courses may be repeated. "

Here is the pdf.2008

http://www.pvamu.edu/PDFFiles/Letter_to_Prospective_Student_Dec_2008.pdf

http://www.pvamu.edu/pages/1017.asp 2009 PV wants all support courses completed within 10 years.

  • a. Completion of all natural science courses within the last five (5) years of admission with a minimum grade of "C": anatomy and physiology, microbiology, and chemistry: and, completion of all support courses within 10 years of admission: sociology, psychology, nutrition, and human development life span.
  • b. The assessment of dated credits and courses requiring updating is made upon receipt of a completed application to the College of Nursing.
  • c. Courses classified as support and the natural science courses may not be repeated more than once to achieve a passing grade of "C". Also, no more than two (2) of the above group courses may be repeated.

I sent **** ***** at UTMB an email asking about this repeating course rule. The way I read the PVAMU rule is you cant repeat a course more than once to achieve a "c" or better. So.....I interpret that as if you make an F and then a "c" you cant retake that for a "b". Does anyone else read it like that?

I am still curious how the person who posted this information on this chat room to begine with discovered that?

Ive never heard of the repeating course rule either! But when I emailed **** ****** back in July she said that they would calculate the latest grade for your nursing pre reqs. But every course will be calculated in the overall gpa.

:clpty:welcome caseytate412 and jade409281!! we are so glad to have you! hope i haven't missed anyone.

i have 7 + years experience as an emt and 7 years as a medical assistant. i have also worked in computer networking and computer helpdesk support amoung other things.

i'm sure we can clear the "repeat" course issue with a phone call or email to umtb..that way we will have facts instead of assumptions. this room has been congenial and a great place to exchange information and get the latest "scoop."

:igtsyt: i hope that we all can "maintain" our cool while we are trying to wade thru all this new information..even if the results are unsettling.

let's try not to get all worked up. i'm sure there is more to the story.

ms sealy steps down from soapbox

misspink86,

ms. ****** told me the same thing...this repeat issue sounds like something new and i'm sure it can be appealed..it also sounds like everyone is saying the same thing..you can't "repeat" a course more than once for a good grade..in other words taking a course twice is ok, (but you can't take it 3 times).

well...hopefully we will have new info from one of our networking buddies this week!

jade409281 thanks for posting the link info!

Thanks Ms. Sealy! :) :clphnds:

Its September now, so hopefully before the end of the month we will know something!!!!

OMG, eveyone the closer we get to interviews the more nervous I get about all of these stipulations. Oh and PV doesn't count it against you if you wthdraw fromt the course more than once, its if you actually took the course more than once.

Morning everyone!

I really can't believe how quickly the time has passed. I can't wait to see who gets that first interview invitation email cause that's when we will all start freakin out....lol
