UTMB Galveston Spring 2021

Published

I am going to apply to UTMB Galveston's spring 2021 program. I have a 3.7 overall GPA and a 3.9 prereq GPA. I'm taking the TEAS this Friday and was wanting know if anyone could tell me whether I'd be a competitive applicant. The only other thing I have is that I've worked at a doctor's office walking back patients, taking vitals, inputting and updating patients meds, etc. for about four years. I have looked at other threads for utmb and it seems most people who got in or at least were considered had higher gpas than I do. Also, does anyone know the wait period for retaking the UTMB for the TEAS? I'm having a hard time finding it.

Hi guys, I have already applied but I called them and they said they already have 1,500 applicants since they extended their deadline by 4 months! That is crazy. I am unsure more than ever and feel like my application was maybe a waste of money. Anyone else thinking that?

1500!? WOW!! That is very intimidating but we can do this! I am taking my TEAS on Monday for the first time. I am thankful for this extension, as it allowed me to complete enough of the pre-reqs to be eligible. I have been working REALLY hard but I'm not sure that my 3.5 GPA will compete with others. I am really set on attending UTMB and ready to get started! I'm not a Spring chicken anymore. haha. Good luck everyone!

Hey guys, I'm applying for the second time. For anybody who's applied more than once, did you have to pay the $45 for the supplemental application again? I've just submitted and it immediately took me to the Thank You page thanking me for submitting my payment when I haven't payed anything.

Hi, I am currently a Summer 2020 first semester student in the UTMB nursing program and not long ago I was in yall's exact position. I wanted to know what it takes to get into UTMB including volunteering, GPA, TEAS, and past experience. Here is some information about my stats and resume.

Volunteering: <15 Hrs

GPA: 3.76

TEAS: 88 (According to an unofficial poll, my cohorts average TEAS was an 89)

past experience: close to 2 years as a critical care tech in a hospital

Prereqs: Austin Community College

Hopefully this will give yall some clarity.

ALSO! if yall do get in, I would definitely suggest looking into the UTMB student housing at Ferry road. It is affordable, decent, and close to campus(even though we are all online currently). Apply asap though, because it fills up quickly.

Best,

-Zach

Thanks y'all, I made a decent score on my TEAS, now I'm just concerned about my personal statement. I know they emphasized it on the site.

Hey! Im a UTMB SON alumna that graduated Spring 2020, and I got accepted into UTMB with a 3.7 GPA from community college, and made the borderline acceptance passing rate for TEAS, and it is true that they look at personal statement the most. During my time, we had interviews but they cancelled that starting Fall 2019, so the only way they can get to know you is from your personal statement. Make sure to weave their vision, mission and values to your personal statement and you'll be good!

Hey y’all! I was wondering how we would see they’re decision of acceptance. Is it thru mystar? I’ve been checking everyday and I haven’t seen any change.

you should get an email from UTMB saying either admission, waitlist, or denial! You will be able to see a status change in MyStar as well!

Hello does anyone know when we will be being back from them.

Can I ask you how your experience was at UTMB? Would you go through them if you had to do it over again? Was it as difficult as you anticipated?

I would definitely go through Utmb again. The nursing program is difficult but they really build you up to prepare yourself for NCLEX that’s why we have a 99% pass rate. The professors are welcoming and care about students mental health and from what I heard uthealth or other schools don’t do that. Good luck!

One of the advisors told me 12-16 weeks, so between 23 September and 22 Oct if things are exactly as they say they are.

Thanks for the insight! Do you mind if I ask how is it doing online classes? Any advice before starting the program?
