UTMB Galveston Spring 2021

Published

I am going to apply to UTMB Galveston's spring 2021 program. I have a 3.7 overall GPA and a 3.9 prereq GPA. I'm taking the TEAS this Friday and was wanting know if anyone could tell me whether I'd be a competitive applicant. The only other thing I have is that I've worked at a doctor's office walking back patients, taking vitals, inputting and updating patients meds, etc. for about four years. I have looked at other threads for utmb and it seems most people who got in or at least were considered had higher gpas than I do. Also, does anyone know the wait period for retaking the UTMB for the TEAS? I'm having a hard time finding it.

Hey guys! I’m a little late to this thread. Like many of you I’m super nervous. I have a pretty good GPA & a descent TEAS score. I’m working on my personal statement now and waiting to finish up a few classes this Spring before submitting my final transcripts. I’m mostly worried about my personal statement. I have no idea if it is good enough. Good luck to everyone who is applying!

Hey guys I'm also planning on applying to the program. Anyone know the average GPA of students who get accepted?

Usually 3.6 or higher but I've seen in past posts that some 3.4's and others get in due to personal statements!

Hi! So the GPA requirement is at least a 2.75. But remember...they are no longer doing interviews so they will not just look at your GPA but also your personal statement. Make sure it is typed appropriately because at open house they said they will pick a well typed personal statement over someone who has a 4.0 and can’t write a personal statement clearly. It’s not just about grades!

Hey I submitted my application over a week ago and submitted my supplemental application on Thursday or Friday.

My GPA for UTMB is 3.5 ish. My TEAS are high 70s/low 80s for science and english and 90s for math and reading. I feel really good about my personal statement. The only thing that worries me is that I don’t have any healthcare experience, and I’ve noticed most people that were accepted have experience. I already finished all of the prereqs for UTMB, have my associates, and I’m CPR certified via AHA. Hopefully that’ll give me enough cool points LOL

Does anyone know how long it takes to receive the supplemental application? I submitted my NCAS application in late April. My application was verified by NCAS a day or two later but I still have not received an email from UTMB.

I applied the April 27 or 28, got the supplemental application on the 30th, turned it in and paid on May 1, and I got access to my MyStar account on May 5.

The email came from UTMB Enrollment Services if you want to search for it in your email or be on the lookout for it. I would email them and ask where yours is since we applied around the same time.

Thank you! I sent an email! I was told that what takes time is to be verified but I was verified by Nursing CAS within a day and never heard anything from UTMB.

Do any of y'all know anything about updating our Spring grades during the academic update window if the deadline is June 1st? It said somewhere on nursingcas not to send transcripts before the window opens but I feel like it wouldn't come in on time?

I got waitlisted for UTH Summer 2020 and not accepted. what elective science did you guys take? also for the personal statement, what should I write about? :( suck at the writing part.

I took bio for non-science majors but I took it when I was still majoring in radiation therapy. They’ll take any science course that’s not a prereq.

For the personal statement, I just described why I choose nursing, things about me that would make me a great candidate for their program, and some of my accomplishments. If you’re not a good writer, I would look at other people’s statements to see how you can format it and the types of things you can add in there

Thank you! I was going to take BIO for science major but I wasn't so sure then.

How can I look at other people's statements? Do the applicants actually share their statement?

Hi y'all! I got waitlisted for the Fall 2020 and decided to submit an application for Spring 2021 as well, just in case I don't get pulled off of the waitlist for the fall (I could hear anytime between now and august ? ). My TEAS score was a 94.7, overall GPA was 3.7, my nursing GPA is about a 3.1, and I have a bachelors degree plus I'm a certified health education specialist with over a year of clinical experience as a patient care tech at a hospital. Fingers crossed for all of us as we go through this process!
