UTMB FALL 2014

I would like to start a thread for UTMB FALL 2014 since there I cannot find one. I am in the process of applying and this is the only school I am applying to. Right now, I just trying to finish my personal statement before I can submit it. I am a bit nervous and excited at the same time.So, how is everyone else doing?

I interviewed this past Thursday so I'll keep y'all updates if my Mystar changes

Maybe they are rolling out the first wave acceptances by date. How do you feel your interview went?

I don't think it went badly. It was average, I was able to answer every question I was asked, but I feel like maybe I could have made myself stand out better (...?). I am not completely sure.

A theory I have about the selection process is how I am staying positive…

1. The committee receives the applications. Weeds out unqualified applicants and is left with a very large pool of qualified applicants.

2. Then rank the qualified applicants by pure numbers. The “top” of the qualified applicants, maybe ones with GPAs over 3.2 or some other distinguishing characteristic of the applicant pool that leaves them with a reasonable number of applicants they could admit, and then begin interviewing. I am thinking maybe 200 applicants.

3. These 200 applicants are then interviewed in “waves” randomly, making decisions as they go along.

My logic: They could theoretically accept 200 “top” applicants in their program. But they have been doing this long enough to know that some will be weeded out in the interview process and some will not accept the offer (bringing them down to probably a good bit less than the final admitted class of 120.) This means that the first 4 or 5 (probably more) “waves” of interviews are highly qualified candidates and all have pretty good chance of getting in and most definitely getting on the wait list. I am thinking this because UTMB has an informal approach at interview, and they do it just to make sure you are not crazy. There may be some interviews, after all the “top applicants” have gone through, that are of qualified applicants that just didn’t quite make it into their selection of “top applicants.” Those interviews will be more critical to those applicants’ acceptance. These interviews will fill the remaining spots (probably a good bit left at this point still) and fill the wait list.

Hey everyone, I've been reading these posts for a while and decided to join finally! I had my interview on Thursday the 20th, and it felt like it went pretty well! I did get some info from the staff about the whole interview process. They said they receive about 500 applicants total, and they will be interviewing "maybe 200" of them (120 will get accepted). My interviewer said something about the first wave of interviews being with those who had high test scores and good essays, but she wasn't very clear on that.

Congrats to everyone who got accepted already! Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear something, I know it's stressful!

No one has received an acceptance email correct?

My best friend got in the program this spring and did receive her email before her MyStar status changed!

So maybe we will have emails in the morning!

For those of you that need to sleep tonight. Haha. (;

I haven't received an email yet. I just logged into mySTAR and saw the green check with an accept/decline option.

Try to stay positive Cassidy! You are a wonderful candidate for the program :)

I had my interview the same time as you and my status hasn't been changed either. Maybe tomorrow!

I feel like my interview went extremely well. There are 3 of us that interviewed on the same date that have not received a status change yet. I have already checked this morning with no luck. :/

I got accepted!!!! But I did not receive an interview??? The lady said we must have one, but she stated she was there for three weeks so maybe she was wrong?? Idk! Hopefully they did not make a mistake! lol congrats to everyone else who got accepted and those who are waiting! hang in there !! I know it can be nerve racking believe me i was on pins and needles!
