UTMB Fall 2012

U.S.A. Texas

Published

HI! I am applying for the traditional BSN program at UTMB that starts Fall 2012. I am taking my TEAS this friday and I wanted to know if anyone else here is applying for the same semester. Hopefully there are others so I don't have to be nervous alone!! :D

I haven't taken the TEAS V, yet. In fact, when I looked at the ATI site, I thought the list of Texas testing centers was a bit limited. There wasn't anywhere in the Dallas area? Where are/have others taken the test? would you recommend getting a study/practice guide?

I initially wasn't sure if I'd have it together enough to apply for the fall, I'm still not sure, but I'm going to try!

Hey guys! I've been accepted to the Fall 2012 semester due to an error during the Spring 2012 semester acceptance letters. Can't wait to see who will be joining me and feel free ask me any questions about the process because I've been through it twice! Right now the biggest piece of advice I can give you during all of this is to make sure you are calling to follow up after each step of the process. I never received my acceptance email for reasons beyond any of us (it just never showed up even though they sent it) and they ended up giving my spot to someone else (hence why I've been accepted for the Fall!). Well, good luck!

Hello!

I am an applicant and incoming student to the spring 2012, BSN program at UTMB. I have a bit of a lighter schedule before the semester begins, so I wanted to make myself available if you had any questions about the application process for UTMB. Someone from the previous thread helped our group out tremendously, so I wanted to pay it forward!

My TEAS: 74.9%

Overall GPA: 3.4

It seems UTMB is awesome in that they consider, not only the GPA, but they take into account your personal essay. Some people with extremely high GPAs get accepted right way and without an interview, some get waitlisted and come in even during orientation (learned this from the previous thread from ours), and the rest of us go through the waiting game of submitting all of our info and waiting on pins and needles for an interview. From what I could gather, the key was getting an interview. It seemed that most who got an interview were ultimately accepted.

Some of us got interviews within 2 months after application time was closed, which was really quick. They interviewed a set of us and then it was a month before the next set was interviewed, and the subsequent interviews seemed to drag on.

Lots of people's paperwork got lost, or never reached the SON office or enrollment services so make sure and stay on them. Once you've completed your application, I think within a few days, you can log on to your mystar account and verify which paperwork they've received. If you've turned it in, but it's still listed as 'to-do' on mystar, make sure you call and verify and resend it to them. I know of one person for sure whose paperwork wasn't received and it hindered her getting interviewed.

Also, about the GPAs and paperwork--the person from the previous thread that answered all of our questions was listed as having an incorrect GPA of 2.8, but was still called to interview. When she got there she then realized what happened and let them know that her GPA was substantially higher. I say all this to say that UTMB is not always about just what a person scores on a test...

I can not stress enough about how important the personal essay is on your application!

Please let me know if I can answer any questions! I'm sure more of us will be on throughout the coming semesters, as it was SO helpful to have someone who had already gone through the process to talk to.

Good Luck!

Hi everybody! I am applying to UTM and UTHSC for the Fall 2012. I sure hope that I am considered competitive to get into either one. Does anybody here know if you have to take the TEAS before you apply or if you can apply first and then have your test scores sent over? I am not scheduled to take the TEAS till Dec 29, and want to submit my application as soon as it opens. They have my transcripts already :) Good Luck to everyone!!

Yes, you can apply then take the TEAS. You just have to have all requirements submitted by the application deadline. As Ledestiny said, stay on top of them, don't just assume UTMB will receive your scores...

Good Luck!

Hi guys! I was wondering if anyone knows how many applicants UTMB accepts? And I take the TEAS V on Dec 15, any pointers? UTMB is my top choice and I hope to get in!! I took the HESI A2 for UT-HSC and from what I've heard, it's nothing like the TEAS V.

Thanks! And I wish everyone the best of luck!!

Usually about 220-250 are interviewed with 200 slots being filled. And this is all speculation from our group, we have no hard numbers except that there are 120 slots for BSN. We were told that they were doing interivews every Friday in Septemeber and they would interview about 40 people. There was 5 Friday's in September so it was about 200 people total. I was thinking like 120 slots for BSN and 80 for bacc2. I think the way we figured it out, everybody had a 66% or 2/3 chance of getting in. But, it really seemed better than that. I think all that were on our thread got accepted except 2 or 3, and one of them didn't get an interview on time because they didn't get her info. She turned it in, but had to follow up on it (or something like that).

As for the TEAS V, I found it pretty difficult, but I was taking Micro, nutrition, statistics and eng II that semester and it had been a few years since my A&Ps, and I hadn't done chemistry yet. I didn't study at all for it, but I know several people did. Had I, I feel sure I would have scored better. But, UTMB considers 65-75% to be competitive.

The good thing is, you can redo it. It was bits and pieces of all the different areas: A&P I&II, chem, stats, nutrition, eng, math and I can't remember the others....

If I could do it, anyone can!

My TEAS score was: 74.9%

Thank you so much, ledestiny! :) Wonderful information that gives me more hope! All I have been reading is how hard it is.. I will definitely be studying what I'm hearing.

I will post my results as soon as they become available and hopefully can help some other UTMB applicants! -I know I will be seeing you guys next fall!

A heads up to everyone who has taken the HESI (for UT HSC) and has not yet taken the TEAS... The TEAS is MUCH harder than the HESI.. The hesi is a joke in my opinion compared to the TEAS.. I did well on the TEAS, but it took a lot of studying.. I had to go over old material and random material and you still don't know what to expect... there were a lot of ***** moments while taking the TEAS because the material is just so broad. just my opinion.

Hey everyone :) I was accepted for the Spring 2012 program but will be keeping tabs on this forum to help out in any way. Our class had the same help from a current student (Punkydoodles) and she was a life saver!

For those ONLY applying to UTMB, I would definitely look into the other schools as plan B's. There was a time when I was almost certain I didn't get into UTMB and was kicking myself in the butt for not applying to other places. You want to have some options! :)

I'm almost easy to submit my application :D Just gotta figure out how to make my personal statement stand out

I've also heard that those who submitted their applications first where more likely to get in over those who waited till the deadline.... Do y'all think there is any truth to this?
