UTMB BACC2 Spring 2011

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Just wanted to start a thread to see how many others have applied to the BACC2 program and hopefully we can keep track when interviews start, letters get sent, etc.

So, have you sent in your application, and when do you think you will first hear something? I know last year, interviews didn't start until October, but I have a feeling that they were still trying to play catch-up from Ike. Considering that some of the Fall 2010 applicants were contacted on March 1st for interviews when the application period ended Feb. 15th, I'm hoping that maybe August could be a possiblity for us to hear from UTMB. Any one else have thoughts about this?

Here's to all the BACC2 2011 applicants! Good luck! :D

CLaker,

I have a degree in Management Information Systems, so nothing close to a health sciences background.

I'm taking my last prereq this semester - A&P2.

MT56, I'm in the same boat! I was accepted as an early admission, as well. Let me know what you hear when you speak to them today.

Also, does anyone know what the time spent on campus is like at UTMB for the BACC2 program? I live downtown so this would be quite the commute to have to tackle daily. However, it would be more manageable if I only had to drive down say, 3ish times a week. Also, can anyone speak to the workload? I know it's a hybrid based program, but wondered if anyone can elaborate on how much time is spent on an average day as compared to the 4 semester programs.

I know that it is online based and you must go to UTMB once a week to take tests, attend a seminar sessions, etc. I do know that for the first 2-3 months or so there are labs and/or other classes that they want you to attend on campus, so you will probably be going 3-4 days a week at first. Once clinicals start, it should only be one day a week. That's what the preadmin advisor told me, but you should definitely call them up if you want to know for certain.

May I ask what your previous degree was in? Have you ever applied to UTMB before? I see you applied to UTHSC also, I was wondering if you sent your HESI scores to UTMB as well?

Congrats and good luck on a tough decision!

Thanks for the info, Clarker! Sounds like it would be quite helpful for me to speak to an advisor.

My previous degree was completely non-science related. I have never applied to UTMB and did not send HESI scores since they were not required.

I received a package in the mail - I was granted early admission! However, they're only giving me until September 23rd to accept, which complicates things. UT - Houston is my first choice, and I won't know if I've been accepted until October or November. I'm going to call them tomorrow and see what options I have.

If you don't mind me asking, what was your GPA and how well did you score on the TEAS exam? Also, did you take your prereqs at a community college or university?

Herbivore,

It was my understanding that BACC2 applicants don't have to take the TEAS.

Science GPA: 4.0

Undergrad GPA: 3.76

I can't definitively tell you my prereq GPA - I don't know which courses they decided to use for my electives and Humanities, but I'm guessing it's in the 3.9 range.

I took many of my prereqs at a community college, but I also had other prereqs from UT-Austin.

Thank you for the info...I totally forgot that people applying to the BACC2 program didn't have to take the TEAS...Congrats on your early acceptance to the program...I applied to the Traditional program and just received an email for an interview...so I am hoping the interview will turn into being accepted to the program...

hookem,

I think I just talked to the rudest lady I've ever met in my life. I've had to call UTMB a number of times to request an extension, and I finally got an answer from them today. An extension will not be honored. There will be no exceptions. I find this a little unfair - I feel like I'm being penalized because they decided to offer me early admission. If I had the opportunity to interview like everyone else and got an offer then, I would have until November to accept. Based on the rudeness I've encountered, I don't want to go to UTMB. The lady would not let me get a word in and was pretty condescending. I'll take my chances and see if I get accepted at UT - Houston. If you want to, you can call UTMB and see what they say. I hope you have better luck than I did!

It really depends on who you talk to. There was a mishap in my admission decision and talked with the same lady. I would talk with *****. Very nice woman.

Lindsay,

If you don't mind me asking, what was the mishap, and was it resolved? ***** IS very nice, but I didn't think she'd be the right person to talk to. I'll try again. Thanks for the advice!

They took me out of one program and inot another without asking me. It has been resolved. I would try and talk with her and see what happens. Best of luck!

MT56-

I would try talking emailing the Dean of admissions (I'd put her name, but they'll just delete it in a few hours). I was at the open house this weekend and she was super nice and helpful. The only other advice I would have is if you offer to just be placed in the interview pool and take your chances on getting an invite that way? I don't know if they would go for it or if you even want it, but it's worth a try. I know that the Dean said they are starting interviews on the 24th, so it sounds like they need to have a good idea of how many open spots they will have left by that time.

To those who didn't see my post on the other thread, the Dean said they will be accepting 80 this year to the BACC2 and over 700 applied!
