UTMB BACC2 Spring 2011

Just wanted to start a thread to see how many others have applied to the BACC2 program and hopefully we can keep track when interviews start, letters get sent, etc.

So, have you sent in your application, and when do you think you will first hear something? I know last year, interviews didn't start until October, but I have a feeling that they were still trying to play catch-up from Ike. Considering that some of the Fall 2010 applicants were contacted on March 1st for interviews when the application period ended Feb. 15th, I'm hoping that maybe August could be a possiblity for us to hear from UTMB. Any one else have thoughts about this?

Thank you so much for your input Beebers. Sorry about not getting back to you sooner. I got your message, but apparently, I haven't posted enough to be allowed to send private messages. Like you, I'm also concerned about the 20 credit hour work load. Do you know if any of the exams are taken online, or are they all done on campus on Tuesday mornings? I guess one of my main concerns (and this may sound rather trivial) is that my typing ability is quite subpar-I just dread having to take time-limited online tests that might require long essay type answers. But, I have to admit, the appeal of being done 4.5 months earlier is also pretty strong. Thanks.

Yikes.. so I'm trying to determine how much money I'll need to borrow for all of the school related expenses:

tuition: 13,310

books for spring semester: ~680-900 (depending on new/used)

software for my blkberry: ~280

Besides the stethoscope, scrubs, lab coat, patches, scissors, and penlight am I missing any other important expenses?

I too have been accepted to the BACC2 Spring 2011 program. I am so excited and nervous. Congrats to all of you all also. I hope that we all can get together soon and meet before school starts and form some study groups. I have paid a deposit a an apartment on the island but am wondering should I just commute from Houston. Any Suggestions??

Did anyone get a chance to apply for the SON scholarship that is on the UTMB website? I went online 2 weeks ago and saw it was open, but didn't see a deadline date. I finished my responses and found that it closed. I called the school to inquire about it and it closed on 11/15. Did anyone else know about this? Did I miss something here? :/

I finally sign up for allnurses.com and am very exciting about starting the program with my new classmates. I will definitely be down for the car pooling. I will be commuting from the area near reliant

I was wondering if anyone checked the financial aide portal recently and noticed the "Salute to Nursing" grant that is posted? I'm assuming that this is the fundraiser grant that's given to the BACC2 students, but this year it only appears to be for $1000. I know in past years, students were getting $5000. I guess it's no surprise that the amount is lower now with the downturn in the economy. Did anyone else get $1000 as well?

Where did you see the grant posted? Was it just listed on your fin. aid portal? Just wondering b/c I just looked at mine, but it doesn't list anything besides my stafford loans...

Do you know if that is a grant that every student gets, or do you have to be eligible for it?

Yeah, it was just listed in the middle of the list of my loans and only said "Salute to Nursing". That is what the fundraiser is called that UTMB holds every year. From what I've heard/read, th "grant" is supposed to be given to all BACC2 students.

You did an interview over the phone? May I ask why and how did you set that up? I currently live in Japan and will be in the states for the summer to take a few prereq classes, but don't want to wait around for months to possibly get an interview.
