New job isn't challenging :(
Hello, I am a second career RN who recently (October) moved to a different city to live closer to my fiancé and start a new life where he lives (since I am lucky enough to have a job that I can do anywhere). I have 22 months experience, all in the ER. I am now working at a level 4 trauma center ER that is absolutely beautiful but I find myself not being challenged each shift. I work nights and each night is slow. They have actually let people go home most shifts due to low census. The acuity of the patients we see is much lower than what I was used to. While I can't say that I enjoy my new job because I don't think there is much for me to learn here, I love the fact that I am only required to work weekdays... never required to work a weekend. I know that I will NEVER know all there is to know in nursing, but the people at the new place are not nearly as sick as they were in my first hospital. Considering I've only been there 2 months and a week or so, I know that I will not enjoy working there long term. The only other more acute job option in my new city is a level 1 trauma center/county hospital. I did not apply to this place in my initial job hunt and now I am curious about it. I am also starting school in January for a BSN to DNP program. I feel that I need to use this time to learn as much as I can... especially because I WANT to learn! How long should I stay at this new place? I know 2 months is way too soon to quit a job. Should I ask to shadow at the trauma center? Any advice is much appreciated!

UTMB BACC2 Spring 2012
Hi Mag28 - I feel like it was pretty competitive and that they did look at your whole application. It felt like the interview held a lot of weight in the acceptance decisions (to me...of course I do not know the magic that goes on behind the scenes in determining who they accept).

UTMB BACC2 Spring 2012
Mag28 - Long story short, I am going to start in 2012, but was accepted to start with the 2011 group. I fell really ill and was in the hospital for a while and able to defer my enrollment while I got my health issues figured out. I am very grateful that they did that for me. I am super excited to get started. Hurry up January!

UTMB BACC2 Spring 2012
Hi - I am starting the BACC2 program in Spring 2012. The Spring 2011 board is pretty helpful if you have time to go through all of the posts. We did have interviews in September last year and acceptance notices in October. Maybe they are going to start them a little earlier this time around which would be great.

UTMB BACC2 Spring 2011
Did anyone get a chance to apply for the SON scholarship that is on the UTMB website? I went online 2 weeks ago and saw it was open, but didn't see a deadline date. I finished my responses and found that it closed. I called the school to inquire about it and it closed on 11/15. Did anyone else know about this? Did I miss something here? :/

UTMB BACC2 Spring 2011
mulligatawni - I remember asking my interviewer about the clinical locations and she said that they try their best to have you work in the area of your choice. I am not sure of the duration of the clinicals, but I assume they would last the majority of the year since this program is so short.

UTMB BACC2 Spring 2011
Congrats everyone! LonghornLK - I live in the Heights area and will be commuting to Galveston as needed for class and seminars. NLDN3 - I plan on using my iPhone as my PDA. With all of the stuff we have to buy - books, software, lab equipment, etc - I don't think another PDA is in my budget...unless Santa brings me one. I am going to purchase the supplies as much as I can not just to spread it out. Keep us posted if anyone finds out what the second week of school schedule will look like.

Would you all be up for meeting for a happy hour or something to celebrate our acceptance into school and the start of our new journey before the end of the year? I am anxious to meet my fellow classmates. Let me know your thoughts!

@ moomoocows - I contacted enrollment services to obtain the email address and they have to send you a non-disclosure form to complete to begin the process to obtain your email address. Give them a call on Monday. I hope this helps!

UTMB accelerated BSN program January 2011 start
From what I read, you have to have all of the shots completed by the time you start clinicals...but I am not sure when those start either. I took my first HepB shot yesterday. Have you posed the question to the UTMB 2011 Bacc2 board? I think there may be some past students on there that can help.
