UTMB BACC2 Spring 2011

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Just wanted to start a thread to see how many others have applied to the BACC2 program and hopefully we can keep track when interviews start, letters get sent, etc.

So, have you sent in your application, and when do you think you will first hear something? I know last year, interviews didn't start until October, but I have a feeling that they were still trying to play catch-up from Ike. Considering that some of the Fall 2010 applicants were contacted on March 1st for interviews when the application period ended Feb. 15th, I'm hoping that maybe August could be a possiblity for us to hear from UTMB. Any one else have thoughts about this?

Here's to all the BACC2 2011 applicants! Good luck! :D

LindsayPaige,

Where did you hear that they have already offered 17 spots? That makes me nervous because I still haven't heard anything, and I was under the impression that they haven't even started interviews.

I too, will be making the commute from Houston if I get in.

MT56,

What part of Houston do you live? I'm up north in Spring. If I get in, I'll probably be making the commute as well. Maybe we could carpool...

Beebers,

I was thinking the same thing! I live in The Heights, so it's not close to you, but it's definitely on the way to Galveston. I'm sure we'll be able to organize a carpool once we all find out who gets accepted.

As for the number of people they're accepting, the pre-admissions advisor told me that this year (2011) they were increasing the number of spots from 60 to 65. So that should leave 48 left, which isn't too bad.

As for stats, they have to take each person's major and individual circumstances into consideration. So I don't think that you can really compare GPA's and predict much about who will get an interview. We all have degrees already, so no one's grades can be that bad! :) The same preadmin advisor told me that your supporting statement will go a long way in determining if you get an interview. From reading the other UTMB thread, it sounds like they want to contact the interviewees by the end of the month, so hopefully only another week or so.

And to the poster who asked about the pending status changing, it won't change until they've accepted you. That means don't even let it worry you until after your interview. From previous threads, they were noticing the status change on the same day they got the acceptance letter.

How do they contact applicants for interviews? Do we get notified by mail?

They usually contact you via email.

i saw this posted in the utmb spring 2011 forum and thought everyone may want to know. the # of applicants don't necessarily apply to us, but the timing of the interviews are about same according to what i've heard.

good morning everyone,

i spoke with the son this morning and was informed that they received roughly 300 applications and will only be accepting 80 students for the traditional bsn program. i was also told that it will not be until mid-september when we find out whether or not we will be interviewed. we will also be finding out by email so make sure that the email address you have listed under econnect is the one that you use most often. i hope this is help to someone. i know it definitely put my mind a little more at ease.

Beebers,

I live in the Heights too! I've applied to the generic 15 month program, UTHSC, and TWU...I will take whichever accepts me...hopefully ut or utmb. I would definitely be up for carpooling...I live on Harvard. My kids go to Travis...and one wants me to throw a smilie in:p

Lots of high gpas... My gpa isn't that great. 4.0 in the prereqs but my science gpa is closer to 3.0 and my over all is in the 3.4 range. Getting that biochemistry degree at UT austin was brutal but not nearly as brutal as the job market after I graduated. lol

Hi All -

Check your emails. I just received a message saying that I will be contacted to schedule an interview. YEAH!! :D

My friend and I both did also! So glad they let us know that we're still in the running even though there's no definite date and time. What a relief!

I received a package in the mail - I was granted early admission! However, they're only giving me until September 23rd to accept, which complicates things. UT - Houston is my first choice, and I won't know if I've been accepted until October or November. I'm going to call them tomorrow and see what options I have.

Congrats MT56! That's quite a dilemma, but a good one! Do you mind if I ask what your previous degree is and if you are finished with all of your prereqs? I'm curious to find out what I need to live up to! :)
