UTHSCSA - UT Health Science Center San Antonio - Spring 09

Published

Sorry I didn't want this post to get mixed up with the other thread haha it's so long.

Anyways wondering if anyone else applied for the Spring 09. Im also wondering if its worth buying the study guide for the TEAS that they are selling and what kind of questions they ask you in the interview.

I'm so nervous because mine is coming up!

-Thanks Duc

Wow 45 mins?? Dang I was so nervous I guess i didn't even pay attention to the time.. All in all i thought i did well until i heard your 45 mins haha what a bummer...

My interviewer didnt mentiont he accelerated program to me I had to ask for it and then she saw that I already had a degree.. Weird she wrote down that i was intrested in the Bacc2 program but told me to call in and confirm it.... Now im nervous sigh... either way I'd be happy to make it into either program!

It's funny that I keep making plans for when i make it in, like looking for apartments, easy recipes i can cook, shoes for clinicals... but my only backup plan is UTMB... I'd be crushed if i didnt make it!

Well heres everything! GL to everyone and lets keep our sights on the mailbox hahah..

hi guys. i just wanted to wish everyone GL getting in. i'm nervously waiting for that acceptance/denial letter just like everyone else.

I was curious to see who else is finishing up some pre-reqs. I'm taking 2 this semester. I'm wondering since I don't have all the prereqs taken if that's going to hurt me any.

Lets hope not >.

Hi everyone!

I had my interview on September 12 in the afternoon with the TEAS in the morning. I am disappointed with my performance on the TEAS... I had taken the TEAS last year and scored very well, but this time around I scored around 79. Thank goodness I have a high GPA in my pre-reqs and a solid overall GPA. During my interview I inquired about the accelerated option, and my interviewer mentioned that the accelerated program was under review. Up until that point in the interview I felt as though it had gone very well. The interviewer came out and said that I was the type of candidate they were looking for to enter the program, and they would be crazy not to accept me. The 15 minute interview was more like a 30 minute discussion! I hope that me expressing my interest in the accelerated option didn't foil my acceptance. :banghead: Did anyone else hear that the accelerated option was under review? Do we know if there will be an accelerated option available for the Spring term? Either way, I just want to get into nursing school. Someone mentioned all the planning they are doing in the event of their acceptance... I'm right there with ya!

Good luck to everyone. Hope to see everyone in the classroom come January!

Best wishes!

I haven't heard or read anything about the accelerated program being under review. I know the LVN to RN program has been suspended as of Spring 2009 and is under review. That's the only one I've heard about being under review. One of the people in charge of the program (can't remember her name or title) did mention the accelerated to us as a group right before we took our TEAS test. She talked about how they were going to select people (gpa, teas results, etc). I think if there had been any doubt over whether or not they were going to have an accelerated program then she would have mentioned it. I also do not think mentioning wanting to get into the accelerated program hurt your chances. I think anyone with a degree would most likely want to go the accelerated route versus the generic route.

I really hope I get into the accelerated. However, given how competitive it is just to get into the generic program I'm beginning to think I have little chance of being accepted into the accelerated. Trying to stay positive though. I'm also getting more than a little concerned that a few people have mentioned their interviewer giving them such positive feedback and then me not getting any feedback. I'm thinking maybe I totally bombed my interview. :(

I don't think you bombed your interview! I did got get any feed back either and I thought my interview went well. I also think that it is really unprofessional for interviewers to state things such as "they would be crazy not to accept you" or saying "I want you in the program." I feel this way because it can give false hope. If anybody was in a sorority you would understand this concept as "bid promising." This is not to upset those people who did get good feedback from your interviewer, it is more for the people who did not get feedback at all. UTHCSAhopefull -who was your interviewer? was it an alumni? I dont remember what my interviewer's name was, but I felt like we had a great conversation although there was no feedback.

My interviewer was an instructor in the program. She was very nice but also very professional. I asked her several questions at the end of the interview and she was on the ball and knowledgeable about the program. She definitely left me with a positive impression of the staff and program.

Haha I felt as if my interview went great also. Though there was no positive feedback at the end... I don't even remember how long my interview was just talked if it was a regular person I just met.

Lets try and not freak out... 2 more weeks... just 2ish more weeks..

Yes, we should defiantly try not to freak out! There was obviously an interviewer who gave feedback and one who didn't. Not a big deal!

gosh...would mid october just come already!

i don't think that we should use the fact the our interviewer did or did not give us feedback b/c there were a lot of interviewers there and some people give feedback and others don't. everybody is different. if i were an interviewer, i would not give feedback because to me (this is just me), i would feel like i am making "fake promises" to the applicant.

I emailed the school about whether or not we had to request to be considered for the accelerated. The response said that all people with a previous degree would be considered for the accelerated. They also said that final decisions letters should be mailed out next week. If they go out Friday of next week then things are moving right on schedule for us to know sometime in mid October.
