UTHSCSA Traditional BSN Application Fall 15

Published

Hey guys!

So the application to start in the Fall of 2015 is due on February 1st. Really, that is right around the corner if you think about it!

Let this thread be dedicated to all hopefuls!

I still have to take the Teas V, but I did buy the study guide with 2 tests so hopefully that helps. My cumulative GPA will be 3.2ish and my pre-req GPA will be close to 4.0. I'm extremely anxious about getting in that is for sure!

Hey yall,

Been super anxious and worried for all of march, i'm glad i found this forum this morning and see that we are all in the same boat.

Well here's my story, overall GPA was 3.41 when I applied in december, I don't know how to check my sci/math GPA, its probably on SAC's site. Math's were A's, both chems were A's, Anatomy and physiology were A's and my C's were in micro and nutrition :( don't laugh. I got the supplemental application on Feb 3 and have not received a rejection email yet, but I guess i could still get the bad news tomorrow right?

I was reading forums from couple years ago, and they kept saying that receiving the supplemental application is a good sign. Did yall get your supp applications like a month after appplying?

What do yall think? am I in good shape, im so worried and anxious. Hope yalls saturday night is going well, hang in there!

It's okay, I got C's for both of my initial lower-level Chem grades. (Hated that stupid class) I'm take inorganic right now though. The rest of your sciences are good though!

Oh, so all applicants got the supplemental application?

I think everyone did.

"If you do not meet the requirements necessary for program eligibility, please do not complete the supplemental application as we will not issue refunds."

hmm that is weird, they would of told you if you didnt meet the requirements necessary right?

Guess they tryna scam some of us who don't read carefully, kinda shady...

So my stats are:

TEAS- 93

Overall average- 3.72

Science/Math- ~3.61

Just an FYI, you can look up your overall GPA on NursingCAS, and use that to calculate your Science/Math GPA. :)

However, I'm not for sure if that will work for everyone. (You took extra sciences that weren't pre-reqs, etc.)

Yeah it is kind of sketchy, since some people didn't get in because of their transcripts supposedly not being sent on time, etc. But I know transcripts were delayed due to the weather in Massachusetts, so they probably just sent out to everyone who applied as a just in case.

That being said, you should kind of have an idea of whether or not you're a viable applicant. (i.e. have all your math and sciences done, have the minimum GPA, etc.)

I know I haven't posted yet but I've been keeping up with the thread since a couple of weeks ago.

There is a minimum required GPA, so the person who got a rejection email based on an inadequate GPA was probably because their GPA was too low to apply for the program. The overall GPA to even be considered for admission is a 2.5, so his cumulative might have been lower than that.

Also, from my understanding, everyone received a supplemental application. It says in the instructions not to sent it in and pay the $45 (if I remember correctly) if you do not meet ALL minimum requirements. So I don't believe it's an indication that you're higher in the ranking than anyone else. I received mine on February 3rd as well.

I was already accepted into TWUs nursing program for the fall but I've continued to keep up with this thread. I don't know how UTHSCSA differs from TWU, but TWU only sent acceptance emails and gave us two seeks to accept/decline before sending out acceptances to the students on the waitlists They said they would not sent out rejection emails until all available spots had been filled.

Congrats! TWU is supposed to have an awesome nursing school! I was going to go there my freshman year, but decided I didn't really mesh with the campus vibe (lol).

Also, welcome to the group to all the new posters! (Late reaction lol)

In the email, it says:

Dear Traditional BSN Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in the undergraduate nursing program at The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio School of Nursing.

Your NursingCAS application to the Fall 2015 Traditional BSN Program has been received. In addition to the NursingCAS application, the School of Nursing requires all applicants to submit a supplemental application and residency questionnaire to be considered for admission. Below are instructions to complete the required supplemental application and residency questionnaire.

Please note, applicants who do not meet admission requirements will not be considered for admission to the program. There are no exceptions to requirements. If you do not meet the requirements necessary for program eligibility, please do not complete the supplemental application as we will not issue refunds. Admission requirements can be viewed on our website.

ahhh i gotcha, well thats straight forward, because we all looked at the admission requirements and applied once we met the requirements. So we all had to fill it out.

Thank you!! :) I applied directly to the upper division at the Houston campus. I have a prior BS in Biology from SEU (they offered me more financial aid than UT Austin or TX State) but wanted to switch to nursing over half way into my degree and SEU doesn't have a nursing program. I've never been to their Houston campus but I can't complain! My Granddad was a president of UTHSCSA so I always had my heart set on going but then I found out the NCLEX rate has been dropping over the past few years, which made me a little hesitant. I hope that they do something because the 78.49% pass rate for 2014 could be improved. Many other programs had better rates, which is unfortunate. Initially I was setting on going to Houston but I am settled in SA so I figured I could risk it lol. Sad though. Maybe that's why they're changing up the program? The stats for recent classes have been on the up, so maybe that will affect NCLEX scores.

yah 78% is super low  . Fall 2015 though, once we in thurr, we gonna do work and show em how SA does.
