UTHSCSA Traditional BSN Application Fall 14

Published

Hello! So I had seen threads started for past classes and didn't see one yet for the Fall of 2014 class, so I figured I would start one. So let me introduce myself. My name is Will Long, I am a 27 years old male and I am applying for UTHSCSA's Traditional BSN program for the Fall of 2014. I have started my application and have signed up to take the TEAS test next Friday. I am pretty excited about finally being able to apply after finishing up all the pre-reqs. Anyways I was hoping this thread could be used a source of information and a place to ask each other questions throughout the application process. Anybody else out there applying? Have you already taken your TEAS test?

I never liked being towards the end of the alphabet...:banghead:

Im watching my inbox like a hawk ok

Hey guys. I am not a fall 2014 applicant and I hope yall dont mind me commenting in your thread, but I'm having an extremely difficult time trying to decide what I should do with my future. I'm here to ask for some advice, thoughts, and opinions on my situation.

I applied for UTMB and UT Health houston fall 2015 entry and have been rejected by both. It is very depressing and I'm seriously starting to lose hope of becoming a nurse all in all. I was planning on applying to UT Health San Antonio for Spring 2015 (as well as reapply to UT houston and UTMB). My overall college GPA is 2.9 and my TEAS is a 90%. I was also on academic probation for a semester at UT Austin and I have written that down in nursingcas when I applied to UTMB. I would probably leave it on when I apply for San Antonio as well because I just don't want to lie.

Now the thing is that I'm starting to think this is not realistic and I will not get into ut health san antonio. I have several weeks to decide whether I want to join the Air Force and pursue a health care career in the military instead of wasting my time with applying to nursing schools and getting rejected.

All I can do is ask for your opinions on if you think I'll get in or not because I have looked at the previous semester's acceptance profiles and my GPA is far below the average of the applicants that were accepted. I hope some of yall will understand where I'm coming from and can give me some valuable thoughts and opinions.

Inspiredbynavy, I am in a similar spot, while I still do not know if I was accepted to UTHSCSA, I was accepted into UIWs program. So that may be another BSN program to look into, though be aware they require the Hesi not the teas, and the program is more costly and an extra semester, but classes are smaller. I have a low overall because of young mistakes I made long ago. I know it can be discouraging, but you have a really competitive teas score. No one can tell you what's best for you, but first I would ask did the other schools give you a reason for their denial? I would also like to mention that your gpa may not be exactly what you think, many people don't know that repeats are still calculated. In the end I guess it's all about what you want, how hard you work to get it, and how long you are willing to wait. I busted my butt to bring my gpa up, which is still sad due to how many attempted hours I had, but all we can do is try and hope admissions see we can put just as much effort into achieving our goal of calling ourselves nurses one day! Best of luck to you, whichever way you decide, and let's pray for each other! :)

I' m set on being a nurse so hopefully this is my last brawl in trying to get into a school. But if I have to will wait out another semester. I have also applied for ADN at my community college as a backup. :blackeye:

@inspiredbynavy If you want to be a nurse there are other avenues you can take but it may take longer. I think you should wait to hear from UTHSCSA before you decided on the military if thats possible. BUt whatever your heart leads you to and what seems more feasible is the choice you should take. Don't give up :)

I took the HESI but not all sections that UIW requires. That's one of the things why I'm considering military. I am just so burnt out. Almost every school requires one little different thing that will put me off by one more semester before I can apply to that school. And what do you mean by "repeats are still calculated?"

Speaking from having attended one of the information sessions for UTHSCSA, someone asked about classes that you take over again for a better grade, and the lady said that they don't take the higher grade, but rather, will average the two grades out (e.g. You take a class, get a "C", take it again, make an "A", they will take the grade in as an averaged "B"). Hope that sort of helps.

I'm actually facing that sort of issue with a class, because I took it some years ago and was fresh into college, and slacked off, made a C, and am working on it now...but we'll see.

They also take your highest math and science in account when calculating your GPA meaning if you get a C in Chem 2 but took Organic Chem 1 and got an A then the A in Organic replaces the C in Chem 2 is what I was told. If you took higher Math and Science but did not do well they will not be included in your Math and Science GPA as long as they are not on the prerequisites. Subjects like Precal, Cal and Organic Chem. But they will be calculated in your over all GPA. Hope this helps! Good luck to all, I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
