UTHSCSA Spring 2016

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I'm considering going to nursing school through the Baptist Health System in San Antonio or UTHSCSA. Most people I get advice from tell me hands down to go for UTHSCSA. I would like to hear from more of you who are currently enrolled or have gone through the nursing school program at either one of these locations in San Antonio. What did you like about the teachers, faculty, the content you were learning, etc. What were your hours like at school and if you had kids, how did you manage your time.

I am still a pre-nursing student and have one more semester in Spring of 2014 to complete before I can apply. I am very excited and just want to know more information. Also, a close family friend is attending nursing school at Wayland Baptist and informed me that their nursing program is shutting down. Is there any truth to this?

Thanks.

wish I had such experience. The only relevant experience I have in the health field was working in the laboratory in a children's hospital. Does that count at all?

I am literally about to start mine right now. I'm actually really excited for the essay questions because I've been working full-time as a CNA since I graduated high school, and I went to school full-time as well. So I feel like I have tons of experience I can write about.

Thanks.

Of course that counts, any kind of experience counts. It shows you were interested in a health care related field, you definitely have to pay attention to detail while working in the laboratory, and I've seen how the lab looks and how busy it can get, talk about time management skills.

Thank you so much. I feel more confident to fill it up now.

Hopefully, we get into the program'.

You can do it!

And for sure, I hope we all get into the program, we'll know mid-september… or so the email says.

Thanks.

Yes! Use that information! Whatever little experience you have related to healthcare use, even if it seems small to you.

At this point, it doesn't even have to be healthcare related. I spent a ton of time volunteering at the food bank, and feeding neonatal kittens. You can pull skills even from that, play up the attention to detail and time management. About your interest in helping people/(animals in my case), and your passion for learning, there is so much you can take from any kind of experience!.

I just submitted my supplemental application not to long ago. I have already received a response back that it was received. Remember there's a suggested maximum of 350 words.

I found the first essay the easiest. I have prior experience as a medic in the military so I condensed all that information. I only put what seemed relevant to avoid rambling on.

Good luck everyone!

I agree, ANY volunteer info is great. It really shows how much one cares for others, other than ones self.

Thanks.

I was a lab tech in the military for 5 years and I included that in my essay. Yes! It counts! :D

On the second essay, traits and qualities, did you just list them out or speak extensively on them. Traits like attention to details, ability to multi-task, passion for learning etc?
