UTHSCSA Spring 2016

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I'm considering going to nursing school through the Baptist Health System in San Antonio or UTHSCSA. Most people I get advice from tell me hands down to go for UTHSCSA. I would like to hear from more of you who are currently enrolled or have gone through the nursing school program at either one of these locations in San Antonio. What did you like about the teachers, faculty, the content you were learning, etc. What were your hours like at school and if you had kids, how did you manage your time.

I am still a pre-nursing student and have one more semester in Spring of 2014 to complete before I can apply. I am very excited and just want to know more information. Also, a close family friend is attending nursing school at Wayland Baptist and informed me that their nursing program is shutting down. Is there any truth to this?

Littlemisscat no doubt you'll get in with those stats! They're better than mine and I'm in! I know it may be too late for many but how I studies for the teas is...

did the first practice test before my core sciences. Went through the book, every page except practice tests, then 6 months later after my core sciences I took the teas practice test b. Then I went through the study book again and wrote all of the important parts by topic into a small notebook. it was only about 15 pages that I then had to flip through everyday to study. And rewriting it out helped a lot. There is also a teas v practice test app that I used.

That is some great studying there, I'm 100 percent sure that I would have scored in the 90's had I actually put effort into studying for the darn test. I had months to prepare, and then I spent the last week freaking out because I couldn't get the night off before my test and was like there is no way I'm gonna work 7p to 7a, and then go take a test that early in the morning. I read the entire ATI book the night before (once I got someone to cover my shift) and took the test the next morning with no sleep, but completely calm. Totally okay with my score, and didn't want to pay for a retake!

Ok, I found the answer to my question on the UTHSCSA website. Any current classes that are completed after the deadline have to be turned in before orientation.

Here is the info:

Prior to Application Deadline:

  • Complete at least 51 of the required 60 semester course hours of prerequisite courses at the time of application. For a list of required courses, click here. The remaining 9 semester credit hours in the areas of art, social science, and humanities can be completed after deadline and prior to the first day of orientation (example: Introduction to Psychology, Introduction to Sociology, History).

General why do you want to be a nurse and stuff about volunteering is all that I can remember.

Well I'm bummed! I got my results back for the TEAS score and I got a cumulative score of 73. My score went down because of the math portion. I took too long answering some of the questions so I got quite a few wrong from just guessing instead of leaving them blank! I'm so upset and mad at myself because the problems aren't that difficult, I just didn't move fast enough. All the other sections I finished with enough time to look over them again. The grade I got isn't HORRIBLE but I'm going to retake it because I'm DOUBTFUL I'd get accepted otherwise.

Aww man >.

Well you never know, there is definitely the potential to be wait listed.

I got the same TEAS score. I'm feeling the same way as you. Don't worry, there is always a wait list!

I also think its a decent score. In my opinion I feel like acceptance should more be based on school performance instead of a standardized test. Cause like you Id rather have answered everything than to leave something blank. Best of luck!

Just checked my email and the second part of the application was sent. It contains the BSN supplemental application and a residency questionnaire.

I'm not excited about paying $45 bucks for the application because of my TEAS score, but I'm going to fill it out and just hope for the best. Worst that can happen is I take the test over and reapply in the Spring. Either way, I'm not giving up ;)

Good luck everyone!

I got the second part as well. As for the teas, let's all just be positive. I didn't finish the math portion and I left a good 10 or so questions blank but I'm hoping they only look at the total score. I scored an 83 and my cum gpa is 3.88 and math/Sci is 3.63. I literally just signed up for the test without prep so...maybe I should have thought that through lol. I'm hoping and praying for an acceptance letter/email.

Hi everyone,

I'm also applying to UTHSCSA for Spring 2016. I just received a mail from Brandy Finck containing the supplental application and Residency questionnaire.

I was wondering if anyone started on their supplemental application.

In all honesty, I'm just lost for what to put down in my essay.

Any advise?

Deadline is August 7th which is 4days down the week.

Thanks.

I am literally about to start mine right now. I'm actually really excited for the essay questions because I've been working full-time as a CNA since I graduated high school, and I went to school full-time as well. So I feel like I have tons of experience I can write about.

I was a CNA over ten years ago. LOL But in the past I have worked many years in hospital admissions registering patients into the ER and for inpatient/outpatient procedures. Hopefully that does something for me!!
