I have seen many threads for previous applicants for past semesters to the UT Houston School of Nursing. I wanted to start one myself as I am applying for the spring 2014 traditional BSN and have yet to find a thread for it. Although I opened it for applicants, I would also encourage previous applicants, current/previous students, and applicants for other semesters at UTHSC to join in and share in this exciting time!
Reading comprehension: 96%Grammar: 92%
Vocab: 76% (ugh!!!!:-()
A&P: 88%
Math: 94%
I did poorly on the vocabulary section, but I didn't think they emphasized that section as much as others.
I received the letter in the mail (postmarked on Nov 8th). My myuth status is still yellow triangle.
I just checked again, but my updated transcript was postmarked on Nov 7th (the day before I got my rejection letter!!) and my new nursing GPA is 3.89.
For the most part those are not bad scores I would just work on getting the Vocab and A&P up. I used:
the HESI Study Guide:
Admission Assessment Exam Review, 3e: HESI: 9781455703333: Amazon.com: Books
A&P Cliff Notes:
Biology Cliff Notes:
CliffsQuickReview Biology: Kelly Schweitzer, I. Edward Alcamo: 0785555060067: Amazon.com: Books
Pretty much just kind of read them and skipped things I didn't think were relevant. Also, with that HESI review. I swear some of the same exact questions on my HESI were examples in that book (Its made by the same company who does the HESI).
With a GPA like yours you should have no problem increasing your overall HESI score.
Also, Look at UT Galv. They have a program that starts in the summer and if I'm not mistaken it gets finished the same time UT Houston spring does. Think its deadline is in December. I was going to apply to it if I did not get into UT Houston.
When I was denied last semester it didn't change until weeks after I got a letter.
Anyone have a new item on their to do list?
I have.....

My status just showed as deniedI didn't get a letter in the mail yet or an email. Good luck to everyone still waiting!
I'm so sorry to hear that! I am so confused. It seems like they are not accepting a lot of people this semester. I don't understand. Good luck to you in the future! Are you applying for summer 2014?
I'm so sorry to those of you that have finally received replies and didn't get in It seems as if they're being a bit more selective than previous semesters, I'm not sure if that's just because it's the Spring, instead of Fall, or if it's just a new thing. When I went to the info session on Nov 7, -------- the SON recruiter actually bluntly said that if you don't have at least a 3.5 GPA to not even apply. I was surprised because at the info session in August, they said 3.3 GPA to be competitive. Please don't give up and please do try try again! Good luck to those of you who still have yet to hear anything. In previous threads, people were contacted up until the week before classes and offered spots that had freed up at the last minute. Keep your heads up future nurses! :)
For the other person who was put on the waitlist.. I emailed and asked about it.
This was her reply..
The admissions committee does not disclose the ranking of the waitlist. There are only about 20 students on the list. I will be sending out a follow up email to all students on the waitlist this week. We will contact you if you are pulled from the waitlist.
I wonder if because this semester they changed it to strictly pacesetter maybe they are accepting less applicants?[/quote']That's a very good point and I think may be the reason they have sent out less acceptances. Hopefully, once they get the program started, they'll be able to increase class sizes again.
We have a current student in the FB group that is in her last semester of pacesetter and she cannot say enough good things about it. She said that professors comment on how much more advanced they are compared to other traditional classes; and the last semester is so much less stressful with only clinicals & gives you time to really start applying for jobs. I'm feeling optimistic about it.
As of today, we have less than 40 Spring students in the FB group, so I'm really holding out hope that there will be more acceptances soon.

Hmm, I haven't received any letter or e-mail yet, and my status is still a green circle. Not sure what to think...
