UTHSC Traditional BSN Spring 2014 Applicants

Published

I have seen many threads for previous applicants for past semesters to the UT Houston School of Nursing. I wanted to start one myself as I am applying for the spring 2014 traditional BSN and have yet to find a thread for it. Although I opened it for applicants, I would also encourage previous applicants, current/previous students, and applicants for other semesters at UTHSC to join in and share in this exciting time!

That's what I was thinking/hoping/praying!

Same here too. Has anyone receive an evaluation through the mail?

I haven't receive mine yet. Probably because there are a lot of applicants.

From last year forum (Spring 2013), the first post was dated October 18 for an acceptance. Thus, I'm thinking halfway through October?? But since our deadline was earlier this year (Aug 15) vs last year's (Sept 1) maybe they'll send acceptances earlier??

I received my eval the week of the August 15th due date. I submitted my completed application Mid-July. There were a few mistakes and after a significant amount of time trying to reach someone (email, call, etc.) I finally reached ****** ******* last week. She got everything straightened out for me (she very nice by the way) and I asked her about when we should expect to start getting acceptance letters. Of course, she told me mid to late October. I keep getting this response so, I'm gonna stick with that. Luckily, I'm taking my remaining pre-reqs this semester which is helping to keep me occupied and the thoughts of when we will hear something has sort of been pushed to the back of my mind lol! It's still driving me crazy! I want to know now lol!

Good luck to everyone!

I got two evals both before the deadline! Ugh I can't wait that much longer lol

I haven't received my evaluation yet either, however, I applied on the day of the deadline after all my transcripts had been sent/received. I probably should have applied early then sent everything in like you all advised, but I didn't know about this great website, yet! ;(

I've been checking my mail religiously to see if I've received the eval. ;( Will post once I get it!

I just have this really bad feeling I won't get in for spring! I have a feeling ill be wait listed and then reapply and get in for the summer! Ill have taken the hesi again and made a better score and have a higher GPA! Ughhhhhhhhh

So I called up to the school to ask about the number of applicants. The past two times I've talked to the same person, and one time she has said "about 800 usually." And today she said "around 800." Do y'all really think around 800 applied or she's just kinda going off what she's seen in the past?

I have a feeling it is less than that due to the response on this forum...not too many. That is probably just her standard answer, but who knows. Seems like the school is not very forthcoming with accurate info sometimes.

I wouldn't base much off this board. Most people have no clue this site exists.

@stef84: I agree with you as well. There are probably a lot of people out there that apply, but did not participate or knew of this forum. From what I have seen in the past, a lot of people on this forum that got wait listed (like for last spring) eventually did get in (summer/fall of the following year) as they say. It is really all about determination and how much you want it.

My opinion is if you score high on the Hesi (doesn't have to be that "90") and have a high gpa, then you have a very high chance of getting in whether it be now or later. If you had to retake a pre-req classes several times or only took 1 or 2 classes a semester then that could count against you. Other than that, they don't require interviews or essays so the process of getting in, to me, is less subjective. Also, since this is the spring application round, there could be less applicants than the fall application round.

@meganelaine93: These admission boards probably won't give you number of applicants until everyone has been accepted. I tried to call them before and that is what they said. If, again, you made a competitive Hesi score and gpa and made good grades on your pre-reqs the first time around, then there isn't much you "could or should have done before". Plus I wouldn't worry about the number of applicants that applied. The nursing counsellor told me that there a lot of applicants, but some applications are incomplete/late and some applicants don't even have the minimum Hesi or gpa score requirement so they wouldn't be considered. I really wouldn't worry too much. If you are taking classes now, focus on doing well in your classes and not let this admission process worry you too much.:geek:

I went to the info session today because I had nothing else to do and I was curious to see if there would be any new info. They didn't say how many people applied to spring semester but they did say about 1200 people applied to the fall session before us. HOWEVER (I found this very interesting and exciting) only about 350-400 of those people actually met their admission requirements! And since they accept 120 applicants I would say that increases our chances significantly. Just thought I'd share :)

Yay yay yay^^^^^^ this makes me happy and hopeful! Thanks hallie!

Yup that's right lots of applicants, but, at the same time, lots of incomplete/ ineligible applicants. So yeah it works out.

@Hallie:Other than that, did they say if they were going to start Pacesetter Program in spring? If there are any other interesting info such as immunizations, types of class hours... let us know.
